It is a fact that the CIA through their various channels into the middle east did in fact train the muslim fundamentalist in order to oppose the might of the SOVIET UNION.

An intermixture came about in the middle east comprising specialist black op units made up of Muslims, Jews and europeans. These groups became free to roam the lands of the middle east, cashed up and trained to kill. Supported with alot of ARAB oil dollars, and alot of this money went unaccounted for, probably into the hands of rogue, terrorist type groups.

They became ghosts, groups that followed no authority, from these rogue groups al qaeda emerged. They concentrated their main operations across the crescent.
Otherwise known as the fertile crescent where civilization began.

The history of this region is filled with espionage, the term sassanid meaning assasin formed in 1095 AD in Persia. Using drugs and hypnosis on people to make them suicide attack.

see also http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Assassins:_A_Radical_Sect_in_Islam (there is also a link to Hashish

Today drugs in warfare is huge, (and in Afghanistan)
Drugs ruined the SOVIET UNION.

This is a massive conflict and will be around for another 40 - 50 years.

What the intelligence of the West now needs is JACKALS

Men with the popular opinion of the people and who will do their dirty work.

Well it's no secret that Al Qaeda was trained & funded by the US. Though a lot of people to this day tend to think that they're still being funded by them, which in my opinion is bullshit. Al Qaeda is now a rogue group of fundamentalists.

The CIA trained and and helped the Mujaheddin forces which included people who later joined Al-Qaeda. Al-Qaeda was by no mean the major force in the Mujaheddin and far from the preferred circles. That being said much of the Mujaheddin were crazy anyways.

This is foreign policy. Doesn't matter how a client is if they get an objective completed, and the US saw that through the Mujaheddin. Of course the "victory" that was achieved by the Mujaheddin greatly increased the standing of groups leaning more towards hardline Islamic ideologies, as opposed to radical nationalist types.

I see it black, its 2 am though.

Although not fan of conspiracys this is well known, and quite obvious, now if it was only to fight against soviet union, i doubt it, im sure they had lots of other reasonings behind that, all though i have to agree with TVM, i really dont believe that they continue to be funded by CIA etc, they just gone separate ways:) Until a new "threat" for US comes(or a new "opportunity") so suddenly half of the organization suspected members become "friends".
