It's not at all suprising, but this will certainly be a very unpopular move.

I wasn't alive to witness Thatcherism in all its... erm, "glory", but for those who were: how does the current government compare to Thatcher? It seems like they've gone on a complete onslaught and don't intend to stop at all.

This government is a bunch of pussies compared to that of Maggie. But they'll be more sucessfull since there is no real opposition. Thatcher began the destruction of any real opposition and Blair/Brown finished it off. :mad:

Why is it always OK for the right wing to do as it pleases and this is called "conviction" but the "left" always has to waffle and muster up any strength to reverse right wing decisions? When this happens they resort to things like talking about "compromise" and "diplomacy".

This will be fought by the union, no doubt about it; as we all know when privatisation occurs union rights, wages, conditions and hours go downhill or out the window completely.

When there were local threats up in Glasgow earlier this year CWU members went on an unofficial walk-out. Fingers crossed they are organised and ready for a bigger fight.

During the Miners strike back in the 80s, a Union leader said something like "Either we hang together, or we hang seperately". True words, they didn't and they've been hanging ever since. Don't place too much faith, Comrades, in Unions led by those whose only interest in the workers is dependent how much they are paid.

Can't really blame the them for this one. Labour had been threatening the same thing for ages.
