RIVERSIDE, Calif. – A federal judge in Southern California (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100910/ap_on_re_us/ca_gays_in_military#) has declared the U.S. military's ban on openly gay service members unconstitutional.
U.S. District Judge Virginia Phillips on Thursday granted a request for an injunction halting the government's "don't ask, don't tell" policy for gays in the military.
Phillips says the policy doesn't help military readiness and instead has a "direct and deleterious effect" on the armed services.
The lawsuit was the biggest legal test of the law in recent years and came amid promises by President Barack Obama that he will work to repeal the policy.
Government lawyers (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100910/ap_on_re_us/ca_gays_in_military#) argued Phillips lacked the authority to issue a nationwide injunction and the issue should be decided by Congress.
The injunction was sought by the Log Cabin Republicans, a 19,000-member group that includes current and former military members.

This is good news,,...even if it does enhance our imperialism.

Any defeat the conservitives feel is a victory for us (as marxists).

Yes it is. I've just thought of the irony though of the position we take.

"We don't like to kill our unborn. We need them too grow up & fight our wars!" ~We're From America by Marilyn Manson

I see relevance in this quote from a song.

Isn't this old news? I could have sworn earlier last month or so, the same judge said the same thing, on the same matter? Maybe I can just tell the future, I don't know? :thumbup1:

Haha....yup quite ironic indeed! Still when the conservitive bourgeoise are so staunchly opposed to something (queers in this example) we have an obligation to help them, because a through defete for them is still better then a, somewhat, bitter- sweet victory for us marxists.

It's a lot like the gay marriage issue. You as a marxist would oppose marriage in general since it's part of a deluded, imperialistic people and since any such support would only stregenthen the right's powerbase. However, since marriage is something that should've been givin to everyone from the start you support gays in their right to get married since giving them equality is a major part of marxism. So hence everything works out.
Whew...didn't mean to go into that long winded bit on marriage but it was a good example, sorry for going slightly off base.
