Greetings!

I am Comrade Ogilvy of 1984 fame. Well, not really. I'm reading 1984 for the fifth time, and I was thinking about applying a watered down version of Ingsoc to real life. The thing that struck me this time was the life of the Proletariat. They were happy and care free, most were self employed, and they had movies, newspapers and the like. All the Proles were equal. And I thought, what if life could be like that, everyone carefree and equal? If a powerfull leveler is needed, why can't it be a government? Now, I am not insane, I realize that Ingsoc would have to be tweaked, and such things as "War is Peace" done away with. But what if the civilian populace was trained in the ways if battle, so they could do away with the Government all together if they saw fit? I envision a powerful council government in which everyone is equal, and the government provides for the Proletariat, who could spend all their time in leasure. The idea's got to be worked out, but it's what I got.

welcome...

Welcome.

I very much disagree with your Ingsoc dystopia. The working class has to liberate and emancipate itself and we need to grow towards a classless and stateless global community in my view.

Hey, welcome. :)

Have you ever considered reading something other than 1984 ? (Marx, for example..)

I've read the Manifesto cover to cover. I was dissatisfied.

Why?

Why ? Besides, that's not really all there is of marxist theory, let alone practice.

But the main reason I ask is because 1984 is a fictional story, and really not suitable for basing your social theories on. Why read it so many times anyway ? It is better to learn from real theory and practice of socialism, not some fictional hackwork..

Correct. Furthermore 1984 was deliberately written as a dystopian novel. How someone can take an example in this for genuine socialism is really beyond me.

Marxism seems impractical and Utopian. I've read 1984 because it's a work of literary genius. On the whole, English Socialism is far more practical. The primary goal of Socialism is equality. Ingsoc can achieve such a thing.

What is "English socialism"? And the primary goal of socialism is universal human liberation (of which equality is a part), Ingsoc would stand in its way.

Marxism is utopian, so you choose to base your ideas on a fictional dystopian novel instead ?

Oh wow. Just wow. Despite the fact that at the very base of Marxism there is a deep analysis of the cause and effect relationships which define class-based society (although I would disagree with the idea that simply owning property or not is all that defines class, as opposed to how much social power someone has), you still shove it aside and label it as utopian. So how exactly would you go about achieving socialism, then?

Hmm, you're basing your political ideology off of a dystopian novel?
