Prison Break is shit, and you have to remember that we rip off foreign shows heavy these days (Ugly Betty, The Office, Coupling)
speaking of which, Coupling is an amazing show.
but yeah, Oz is pretty awesome, and so is Dexter, and Seinfeld.

I don't enjoy "deep" television. I watch movies for good storylines, dramatic tension, morals and ideas. I just can't sit through hour long episode after hour long episode of any TV show, whether comedic or serious. I watch TV for bright, colorful, idiotic 11 to 23 minute long romps through stupidity. If you have a deep, compelling storyline and can't fit it in a 2-4 hour long movie, there's too much filler. Hour long comedy shows just wear thin on me. Give me a good old fashioned dose of Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Robot Chicken and Archer. Short, stupid, tasteless and to the point.

The Shield and Sons Of Anarchy.
Both have a great story line and bring you on an emotional roller coaster ride (especially Sons Of Anarchy) I cried 4 times. The fight scenes are choreographed perfectly also if drama isn't your thing.

Bah All the best shows get canceled prematurely here: Pushing Daisies, Freaks and Geeks, Carnivale, Rome, Arrested Development, Better Off Ted, Six Feet Under, This American Life... Lately I've been hooked on True Blood and Louie which are too good not to get canceled and Rescue Me, which is a dead man walking as it's already been announced that the next season will be the last.
There are some other good ones, but they have a tendency to go down the tubes as far as writing is concerned: Scrubs (the last two seasons sucked) and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia (the last season sucked in ways you can't imagine; I remember one episode being one long advert for the restaraunt chains Applebee's and Dave and Buster's) are prime examples. Beyond that, there's The Sopranos, which I loved but annoyed me to no end since, like all other HBO original programming, goes forever and a day between seasons and then has very few episodes per season besides.

It's about a bunch of no-good upper bourgeois asshats and all the horrible things they do, done in a hiliarious and delightfully politically incorrect fashion. The arc is that they're all one dysfunctional extended family forced to live in the same house together because their assets have been frozen as a result of the real estate developer patriarch getting tossed in the klink for white collar crimes.
You'll laugh your ass off, but feel all dirty and in need of a shower since so much of the humor is completely, well, inappropriate.

Best shows right now do seem to be American.
Fuck people hating on The Wire, greatest show ever.
How To Make It In America was okayish, I only watched it because of Kid Cudi who doesnt even have that big of a role. Really really hipster too.
Ok Arrested Development seems to have been mentioned a couple times

After a father of the bourgeois family Bluth gets arrested for fraud his son Michael takes over.
Michael's family are snobby, dumb, and funny as hell. Gob, Michael's magician brother is the best.
Great show.

Yeah American TV has improved over the last decade in a similar proportion to how much American movies went down in quality. The US can't do beer, rock (at least not until the British show us which US rock is worth imitating and we imitate their imitation), stand-up comedy, or cigarettes, but we can sure perfect serial television drama and weed (a fantastic combo by the way - or so I've heard).
Really most TV is procedural cop or medical dramas - reality shows - or wacky private eye with some kind of gimmick shows. I wish there was a show called Dr. Cop M.D. which was about a doctor who became a cop due to his one weakness... fear of needles! Half the show would be the procedural drama and the other half would be a reality show where hopefuls try-out to play the part of Dr. Cop's partner in front of a panel of celebrity judges. It would be the best show ever made!
Ok, here's my list of nerdy viewing habits:
Firefly
Buffy/Angel
Lost (I'll punch you in the grill if you call this one bourgie... it's about working class people - and one doctor and one cop - and their struggle against Polar Bears on a tropical Island!)
Freaks and Geeks
True Blood
The Wire/Homicide - I fucking hate cop shows (not just for political reasons because I also hate medical shows) so the fact that these ones were interesting to me I think says something.
Comedy is mostly shit, but there are some outstanding ones according to me:
Mr. Show
Sarah Silverman
Simpsons
Curb Your Enthusiasm/Seinfeld
and... Spaced:D
Through the power of American Exceptionalism, I am claiming "Spaced" for the yanks.

Really? I've seen season 3 and it didn't seem that bad; of course, American security agents are the protagonists, but they are not shown as infallible squeaky-clean good guys as far as I could tell.
Plus they were fighting a mysterious organisation called The Ring, rather than Marxist Islamofascist Terrorists and their commie pinko liberal traitor collaborators.

Is true blood anything worthwhile, or is it Twilight The Series?
Also, haven't seen ANY good series since Fawlty towers - at all.
Wait, Louis Theroux is actually pretty good, does that count as a series?

Is true blood anything worthwhile, or is it Twilight The Series? There's some overlap in the surface plot - but the same could be said of Buffy/Twilight and yet the results are totally different.
I like "True Blood" and only like "Twilight" as far as I can mock it - the book and movie series should have been titled "Buffy the Feminism Slayer".
I've only seen the first 2 seasons because I don't have cable, but it's a short season and the plot moves along pretty good (although there are some slow parts and strange pacing in the first season). Unlike Twilight, characters are interesting, have more than just on dimension, have their own motivations, and react to things like people rather than things to advance a plot.

Well in previous seasons and even many Ring Agents seem to be Russian or other ethnicities "known" for being terrorists or spies against American interests. It's not explicitly anti-Communist (although John Casey is), but there are hints of it now and then. Maybe I'm just paranoid.
