The Boise State victory over Va Tech has inspired me to make this thread for all fans of American college football. (BY the way, GREAT GAME for all who missed it. BSU was up 17-0 before VT came roaring back to take the lead in the 2nd. Came down to a final drive that highlighted the maturity of the Boise players. Good game from VT tho, Taylor looks like he could do some damage in the ACC).

This is the year...BSU or TCU or BYU will hopefully put a dagger in the back of the BCS and finally make a level playing field where winning, not name recognition, is paramount to success.

On the side, I believe the Pac-10s going to be very interesting. I'm looking for my team, Stanford, to build off of last years success but the loss of Gerhart will be felt. Oregon didn't need Masoli to romp New Mexico 72-0. USC has little to play for but handled Hawaii well. Oregon State lost a good game to TCU, I can't knock em for that. UW is a wild card I think, and don't be surprised if Arizona makes more solid gains. Watch the game they have in a coupld of weeks against Iowa, it will show if they're for real.

Bleck PAC-10? As far as I'm concerned, nobody in that conference deserves to be ranked until they learn how to play defense. Did you see the final score in the Oregon - Stanford game? Frickin' ridiculous.

I don't care if it is clichéd, for my money the SEC is still the premier football conference until somebody actually steps up and proves otherwise. Which, incidentally, brings me to my team: Auburn. I definitely think we're going to be a force to be reckoned with both inside and outside the conference. Whether we can beat Alabama or not remains to be seen, but at this point in the season it looks like that game might be the real conference championship game, not the one in the Georgia Dome.

Oh god here we go  The SEC is probably the best conference, no argument there, but Oregons offense blows anything on the eastern side of the mississippi out of the water. They turned the jets up on Stanford (whos defense had previously squashed all opponets, granted ND/Wake Forest not very impressive) and there was no stopping it. Arizona handled Iowa like professionals, UCLA(!) exposed Texas for being a fraud, and Wisconsin barely escaped being upset by ASU. Certainly there are the bottom feeders, but every big conference has the team that loses to Jacksonville State (SEC) or George Washington (ACC).

You can talk all the trash you want, but I guarantee that Oregon's offense doesn't perform like that against an SEC defense. The only reason they appear to be as good as they are is nobody in that conference knows how to fuckin' tackle. Besides, SEC defenses are far and away, except perhaps the likes of Kentucky, Arkansas, and Vanderbilt, faster, stronger, and bigger, so no way does Oregon's QB get the kind of protection he does in the PAC-10, his receivers aren't as open, and there aren't nearly the kinds of holes his backs currently enjoy. Not gonna happen. "Turning up the jets" on a team like Stanford (whose ranking was undeserved as far as I'm concerned) doesn't really impress me. I promise you, put either of those teams in front of Florida, Alabama, or Auburn (hell, maybe even Ole Miss or South Carolina if they have home field advantage) and no way they score that many points.

I will agree with you about the Big-12, though. Highly overrated. Of course, I'm bound to say that given that two sports writers from Houston basically screwed Auburn out of a shot at the national championship in 2004, just so their precious Longhorns could get their asses stomped by USC, lulz... Not coincidentally, the last time the PAC-10 won a national title was the last time somebody out there actually had a defense.

And I'm sure you think I'm just another douchey SEC fan, but you kinda did ask for it.

Oh well, sorry for you crimson tide fans. Boise state is definitely the underrrated team of the year though at the end of the day institutional inertia has to be mean something. Unfortunately second rung universities in America aren't quite ready for the "big leagues", I'd love to be proven wrong but I just don't see it.

As far as defenses in the PAC 10 go, I think this year is lame but it's bound to change. FOr instance Boulder is now a PAC10 team, and the group is dynamic enough that give it a few seasons it will boast solid defenses.

Meh That game was sort of a mixed bag for me. I'm an Auburn fan, so on the one hand I love seeing Alabama lose. On the other, I really would've liked both our teams to go into the Iron Bowl undefeated. Would've been more exciting that way.

Anyhow, the LSU - Auburn game is the one to watch now... It's still a little early to tell, but if we can win that one we might just have a shot at the national championship. Call it institutional inertia if you like, but I think everybody knows that an undefeated SEC team (assuming there is one this year) will probably get a shot at it.

Tell me the outcome on Thursday was anything but expected. I guess the spread was the only question, but really I was surprised at how unprepared the Bruins were.

Well, Auburn beat LSU, so it looks like the only team left to be concerned about is Alabama at the end of the season. I think that's pretty doable, considering Alabama's loss to South Carolina and Auburn's win against the same team. Barring anything wildly unexpected, I think Auburn's now the overwhelming favorite to win the SEC... And I personally think they're going to do it without a loss along the way. Our secondary got exposed in the Arkansas game, but it's become obvious that Cam Newton is completely unstoppable, especially after he had over 400 multipurpose yards against one of the best defenses in the country (LSU) over the weekend. Never mind that it's only taken him 8 games to break school records in single season passing, single season rushing by a quarterback, and single season touchdowns... And that most of the pundits are now saying he's far and away better than Tim Tebow was at doing the same sorts of things at the same stage in his collegiate career.

Auburn's roll continues. What a game - and and it looks like the Alabama QB is gone for at least a few more games.I'm excited by Newton but was kinda surprised at how fatigued he was looking against the alabama defense. It's been a long season bu he has to outlast esp. a great defensive line if he's going to go to the Rose Bowl.

It's actually been a neat day/night for NCAA. Boise St./Nevada game is just as intense thusfar, if not more so. It's a pretty good defense that's eating way at Nevada's shot at breaking Boise st.'s long run but that's a great game that's far from over despite the end of the game almost upon us. It's been a day with a few nail biters.

Edit: Hail Mary pass by Moore caught with 1 second to go! Boise State is set to win this. Play of the week easily unless something insane happens tomorrow.

Edit: WOW, the kicker missed a fieldgoal that was right there. Unbelievable. So much for play ofthe week. Still, a great pass.
