I have been interested in athiesm for some time, and have considered myself one for several years. I have read some Richard Dawkins and Cristopher Hitchens and admire both the content and style with which they present their very pertinent and on target observations. I am appalled at the power organized religion has over individuals and government, particularly the growing "American Taliban" and its Canadian counterpart. Religion has no place in government, schools and work places. I am angered by the presumption of religious people that their views can and should be aired at every oppurtunity, yet feel that I do not have the same right as an athiest. My sense of humor is tickled by the whole Flying Spaghetti Monster movement, as I deeply appreciate the sarcasm and thinly veiled condescension toward fundamentalists, even while I realize they just don't get it. I look forward to great conversations with other free thinkers.

I love the FSM. May his noodly appendage bless us all!

That said, Hitchens is generally not very well regarded in this forum, not because of his atheism (in fact, Revleft is overwhelmingly atheist) but because his politics have degenerated into imperialist cheerleading. Just a heads up. Not many people have much of a problem with Dawkins, though again, his politics are not perfect, at least from a leftist POV.

The West Edmonton Mall disappointed me greatly. Atheism however, did not disappoint at all.
Welcome!
