Solidarity, comrades.

I have been following these forums for awhile now, and thought I would go ahead and jump in. The title of my post pretty much sums up who I am. I've been a leftist my entire life, and have moved farther and farther left as I have gotten older (in my thirties).

I am a physician by training and I'm disgusted by what my profession has become. I have completely left corporate medicine and work in a free clinic where I try to keep the currently uninsured/unemployed proletariat alive until our country decides to take care of its citizens.

Since I have spent most of my life in some form of training, I have only recently begun to delve into leftist literature and solidify where I stand on most political issues. I know for certain I am a socialist and I from what I have read so far, I seem to have some serious leanings toward Marxism. I am sure this will evolve with time.

Anyways... that's me. Great to finally jump in.

If what you're saying is true, you are one of the most admirable persons here. I salute you.

Thanks for the very warm welcomes. :)

I assure you everything is true, but I also assure you that I'm incredibly rare in my profession.

Welcome comrade! I always admire medical professionals who genuinely care about their patients, and those amongst you who take the extra step to reject corporate medicine and health care deserve the utmost respect. It would be great to have more medical professionals work in free clinics to provide care to those who can't afford it in this capitalist disaster.

I do think that many people study medicine because they want to help people (that is the cliche answer, at least), but get caught up in how lucrative it can be. It's also hard to go to university and get all the debt and not be concerned about money.

Welcome to the board! Who have you been reading? There's a lot of good lit out there on theory.
