View Full Version : What to do with chit chat?

Rusty Shackleford

Ok, so yes, ill agree the "___ a poster above/below you" threads got out of hand. and some really dumb stuff is posted in here. some of the complaints actually do bring one thing up. they are flooding chit chat.

i notice there are some decent topics which get sidelined by spamming of stupid stuff... so... im going to provide a few options and see if we can get a vote on this.

if im breaking rules then delete it.

What does a vote achieve, and why would you be the one selecting the options?

Rusty Shackleford

to get discussion going?

Il Medico

I think SamB should become the revolutionary commissar of chit-chat and purge all counter revolutionary trolls from its ranks.

Hail glorious comrade Sam B!

Someone should start a "Start a discussion on the future of chit-chat with the poster above you" thread.

At first I lol'd at Fawkes' posts. Then I  at Fawkes' posts. Now I facepalm. Wonder where this will go next.

i am a degenerate. I also enjoy lively intellectual conversations. I vote for a sub sub forum for us degenerates, and this for lively intellectual conversations that have not been fulfilled throughout the rest of the forum.

It's chit chat. Everything goes downhill!

1. If you want to start a serious discussion, you can't expect it to happen in chit-chat
2. This is chit-chat

If you put all the degenerates in a subforum, there will be no one in chit-chat.

There's only two.... I think.
And I don't know, today's been an odd day for me.

After a year of not posting here, I had to come back to reclaim the territory I once held reign over as an ex-mod of chit chat.

We should all agree to not make silly threads that often.

Silly posts are ok so long as they are not regular or more importantly- detracting from the thread or forum

This happens constantly, it isn't a new thing. People that have been here a while can probably attest to the fact that every few months, something like the "poster above you" thing happens. I'm pretty sure this isn't even the first time that it happened pertaining to threads about the poster above you. In short, it happens, whatever, it's chit-chat, then it naturally dies down. There's no need for a separate forum or even more guidelines in this place, just learn to not take yourself quite so seriously, particularly on the internet of all places.

this obviously means that chit-chat acts like the capitalist market system. therefore i think chit-chat should then be outright removed.

oh man, if I cared about what my parents thought... life would be... different. to say the least. Sometimes I wonder though, what if I did care.

My parents are so homophpbic.. I told myself I'd only tell them if it got serious. I don't want to deal with the crap I would get unless the gf is serious.

Same thing with me. My family is extremely homophobic. The only people who know are my cool aunt and my parents. Quite simply because the rest of my family would probably disown me. (They did actually disown my aunt when she married a black man back in the late sixties. I hate my family sometimes.:( )

My family just wants grandkids - they won't get any from me no matter which sex I like. They will be dissapointed if I have some long term thing with girl, and I've told them I'm Bi, but they seem to think its a phase.

that is my parents. pretty much word for word. (except the relationship with a girl, they want that.)

If you read her post, it is pretty clear that they don't.

leftace53
27th August 2010, 07:08
well they don't. they just tend to not know. I mean, I don't technically live with them anymore so its whatever, but I was here over the summer, and I didn't care much for dating/had a boyfriend (nope, they didn't know about him) for most of the time I have been here. I guess they just don't want to know their little girl is all grown up.
