View Full Version : Technocracy in the UK

This might be a really stupid idea for a thread, but I was talking to my friend the other night about technocracy, and I think it would be pretty cool if I could arrange an anarchist-technocrat discussion group type thing in the UK. It does depend, however, on how many UK technocrats there are and whereabouts they live. Recently though, I've become increasingly interested in technocracy as a way of arranging a post-revolutionary society and I'd be really interested to talk to other people that are like-minded.

It is just an idea. Might be impractical, but I'd like to hear from other UK comrades that are interested in technocracy.

The EOS contact person in Britain and Ireland is living in the north and attending a university. I could bring you in touch with him.

What about about further south? I know a couple of comrades who might be interested, but who else?

Personally, I live in the midlands, so anywhere in the UK is vaguely convenient for me, provided I can get a train in advance so it doesn't cost a bomb.

It might be better, if we ever plan a UK-wide meet, for us all to meet at our collective geographical centre point.

It might be better, if we ever plan a UK-wide meet, for us all to meet at our collective geographical centre point. We're quite few and far between, so this makes a fair bit of sense. Although it might be wise, if we ever do such a meet, to consider that even if travel costs are roughly equivelent the relative financial blow might not be. Obviously none of us are swimming in riches but some might be more advantaged than others.

Good point. I reckon I could spare about £20 for a round trip, although I fear it won't get me too far.

Maybe EOS could help?

That would be nice. What sort of help could they offer?

Well, ask Andrew or Tómasz.

I don't think I've been introduced to Andrew, and I haven't spoken to Tomasz for ages.

I'd really like to get this thing moving. :) What do you suggest?

Just a thought...

If the British isles sector constitutes both Britain and Ireland, then that would make the geographic centre point either the Isle of Mann or Liverpool, not the midlands. Its unlikely that i personally could attend for various reasons, but im just throwing that one out.

Quail

I think it would depend on the locations of the people that were interested.

This. There's no point in accounting for the locations of non-attenders.

Dimentio

Yep. And Isle of Man would be a little impractical.

EOS could perhaps cover a part of the costs.

I think we should determine who will be able to attend before planning any meetings. Later I will see if I can post a general PM or some such to any UK Revleft members who might be interested.

Yeah I could organise, I not sure if Dimentio wants me to go cap in hand to Andrew for moniez :/ Basically I just want a list of people who are interested, just say your region better not getting too specific, then we can select a place. The isle of mann would geographically be best but the money for everyone to get there and back would be a lot for an event we could easily organise in England.

And say it in PM or on eoslife.eu if you must. In fact, a public thread isn't the wisest place to have this advertisement.

For security reasons, the best thing would be if all could meet on Skype or Mumble first.

I'm a bit disapointed to be honest. I thought Technocrats would, like, meet in the Matrix or something

Quail

I'm interested, but I don't have skype. I have MSN and that's it, but if somone could let me know how to operate skype (by pm), I'd be interested.

To talk, but you need it to talk through the MSN as well.

The question of me talking (as opposed to typing) is moot anyway.

I agree, but we need to organise it.

Would it be remiss of me to ask anyone that's interested if they could PM me their rough location?

So is anything happening with this? I've now got a webcam with a microphone (or I will have tomorrow, when I pick it up from the post depot) so I will be able to use skype.

Jazzratt
22nd September 2010, 22:25
I've got skype and a microphone as well. I've also got two webcams but it will be a cold day in hell when I willingly show people my ugly mug unless it's unaviodable (like at a meatspace meet up).

Everything apart from that. I would prefer something discreet, like maybe some kind of bracelet or something.

I hope you realise I was joking.

Maybe I could wear a grey top or something.

Quail

Isn't a grey top a little too discreet? There are probably going to be loads of people wearing grey tops just because they like the colour. I'm fairly distinctive (I think). I'll probably have brightly coloured hair by the 23rd, and I'll be one of the few people with a 7 month old baby.

I'll be there too and I'll help NoXion and Jazzratt (who I'm going with) keep an eye out or we could all swap e-mails and phone numbers make life a lot easier.
