I've only been to Portland once, during my sojourn across the United States (I drove there from Bozeman MT...there's some really cool terrain during that drive, especially in Idaho). I stayed with a acquaintence who I kinda-sorta knew, but he couldn't really hang out that much because he had work/school. I visited Black Rose Books, but they were closed. After that I just kind of wandered around for a while, bored and lonely, especially considering the fact that it was my 21st birthday, a day best spent killing brain cells and passing out in your own fluids, or at least so I'm told. I did manage to catch an awesome Jesus Lizard show in the Crystal Ballroom, though.
After that show, I wandered around the streets some more, eventually buying some hashish from a shady dude, and spent the rest of the night high. The next day I called the same guy and bought a bunch of weed, after which I skipped town, driving to Salt Lake City and leaving the world of Portland behind forever.
I remember being amazed at just how many hipsters there were in Portland.

Portland, in my opinion, is one of the worst cities in America.

It's too expensive, rains almost every day, and is full of hipster doofuses.

No such thing. West Coast hipsters are all expatriates, usually from the Midwest, and should go back where they came from.

It's relatively inexpensive- Oregon is the 4th or 5th sunniest state in the country- they get no rain in the late spring early summer and most of it in the fall and winter- every city has hipster doofuses-
I'm starting to think this hipster bullshit needs to be put to rest via another 'hipster-vegan-animal rights-environmentalism-' thread redux.

There are a lot of bike shops because the city is easily navigated by bicycle- the hipsters are here because there are hipster hangouts- which every city would love to have- as it's a money maker.
There are far more genuinely strange people living out here- of all ages- then there are hipsters. There are also a lot of hipsters.
It also depends on where you want to 'hang-out'. If you want to go hang-out at 'Rogue brewpub' down town on a friday or saturday night you might as well be a hipster yourself.
I'd rather be still living on the east coast. But it's because of it's beautiful autumn and frigid winters. I love that. They don't get thunderstorms out here either- every once in a while there's some clouds with a rumble but that's it. East is still home.

Well, speaking personally, I've been to a lot of cities all over the country, in almost every state in the union, and Portland definitely takes the cake in terms of how many hipsters roam the streets in broad daylight. Although they're probably less than the hipster population of NYC.
Although the city that I live in now has more than it's fair share...it very well be the hipster capital of the South.
