My ass after taking laxatives has better flow than he does.

And how does that second video prove he's not sexist? Not that I really care at all to be honest, cause he sucks ass and is brutally overhyped by leftists.

Also, I'm pretty sure there's been about 50 threads on this.

So you're happy that a couple of interviews and a show fully excuses some of his lyrics?

So you're happy that a couple of interviews and a show fully excuses some of his lyrics?

It clearly points out how he's against both sexism & homophobia. Are you really going to take the words spoken through MC language as them being true in what they say?

Sam_b

Where is the logical conclusion there? Parliamentary speak and true opinion?

"We're not racist, Aghanistan was a mistake" Awwww okay then!

Honestly, this guy is given way to much credence. Besides the fact that he's a shitty rapper, why the hell do people on here spend so much time debating whether he's sexist or homophobic? It's not like he's in the running to become the leader of some group or party or whatever, he's a musician, who gives a fuck? If you like his music, listen to it, and get your ears checked in the mean time, if you don't like it, don't listen to it, it doesn't really matter all that much from a musical standpoint what his politics are. I wish there could be just a fraction of the amount of attention paid to this guy given to some legitimately good musicians who happen to be leftists or at least leaning that way like MC5, Patti Smith, pretty much any 80s hardcore bands with some notable exceptions, Billy Bragg, Choking Victim and all the other c-squat bands. But really, it's music, I personally don't give a shit what the person or people creating it thinks about Proudhon's view on property or the potential of the lumpenproletariat.

Pirate Utopian

Crap? Yep!

I dont really see how this refutes his homophobia, he justs says he doesnt say "faggot" anymore. Not that he is geniunely opposed to homophobia, he could just stop saying it so he wouldnt face the criticism of people who call him out on it anymore.

Who really cares, at least he's building orphanages and shit. He's more socially involved than most artists are and it's not like he's out committing hate crimes.

The best lines in all his raps come from other rappers.

and he's still batshit insane:
"I know too much, the government is trying to murder me!"
"And you can't fathom the truth, so you don't hear me
You think illuminati's just a fuckin conspiracy theory?!"

Revolutionary volumes one and two are good, but I can't believe anyone would like The 3rd World. Although, lately, the more I listen to him, he does kind of bug me. The extremely short loops get to ya.

Yeah, third world was shit. It just annoys me whenever I listen to him cause he has sexist and homophobic lyrics, whether he actually is or isn't.

The Coup and Dead Prez make him look fucking pathetic.

Sir Comradical

I have all three albums and I like many of his songs, but he has said some sexist and homophobic things in his lyrics and in interviews. I pretty much know the lyrics of all his songs so here's some sexist/homophobic verses that come to mind.

Examples.
1. "Im not a massaginist I just like it when girls are massagin this..." - The Rebel

2. "Immortal Technique incinerate degenerate fags..." - Crossing the Boundary

3. "That's your girl, ***** get over here, give me some brain. I'll bust off on her face and right after the segment she'll probably rub it in her pussy trying to get herself pregnant..." - Obnoxious

Having said that, I do think he's changed quite a bit since the days of Vol.1 and 2. He's definitely a lot more articulate and less boorish now than he was in the past. Maybe he has changed? I don't know. If I met him, I'd definitely enquire about the lyrics I mentioned because those are simply unjustifiable.

Yeah you're right, he doesn't actually say he's opposed to homophobia.

What's sexist about that again?

Sir Comradical
10th September 2010, 08:20
What's sexist about that again?

Well look at the whole thing.

"But Im'a only pay for 1 night stay at the Ritz
I wont even get you a towel when I spray on your tits,
Im not a misogynist I just like it when gurls are
massagin this..."

Now call me old fashioned, but I think he's reducing women to the level of vulgar sex objects.

Or this gem from 'Crossing The Boundary'...

"I'll rape your moms and we can make this a personal issue..."

That's not nice...

Vendetta
10th September 2010, 15:07
It's not supposed to be nice, that's the whole point of the line.

it doesn't matter if he's sexist, homophobic, or whatever else you wanna say if most of his raps suck ass. his lyrics aren't even decent.

Some of the most sexist and homophobic people I know, are people who virulently claim to be neither.

That is the nature of political civility. Homophobia and sexism are everywhere but no one is a sexist or homophobe.

I believe that this is because (here's my impression):

1) Some leftists think he's cool because he's like a leftist rapper or something... Usually the most enthusiastic yet perhaps naive and new of leftists are like this and support him even if perhaps they know deep-down that he sucks.

2)Other leftists think it makes them seem alt or something professing their hatred for his music (like music critics) or denouncing his alleged homophobia/sexism.

The best option is:

Immortal Technique isnt really homophobic or sexist, just a terrible, terrible rapper.

Barry Lyndon
15th September 2010, 04:53
I see we have so many bona fide experts as to what makes a good rapper .

I think he's great(as a musician, for all I know he may be a terrible person), although I have only listened to Revolutionary volumes 1 & 2 and haven't listened to 'Third World' yet.

Is he sexist or homophobic? Perhaps, or perhaps not. But I don't let it affect my judgement on the quality of his music. I mean, I love Regina Spektor's stuff and she's an ardent Zionist.

This article was pretty loltastic however:

Unlike most “hardcore” gangster rappers, Immortal Technique spent three long years in jail.

IMMORTAL TECHNIQUE IS THE ONLY RAPPER TO GO TO JAIL EVER, AND GOING TO JAIL AUTOMATICALLY MAKES YOU HARD

He’s also turned down multiple major-label offers so that he will never have to compromise his lyrics. Those two facts alone make him one of the realest MC’s touching a mic today.

Even though major label rappers have better lyrics than him...

There was also a song mixed in there that I didn’t recognize that contained the refrain, “Bush knocked down the towers.”
LOL

i'd tend to agree with both points you've made, but i think he's a talented rapper. leftist or not, he speaks his mind which i can appreciate.

the gripe regarding his flow is about the only legitimate one i've read so far, but then again it's sort of petty. i mean, some of the greatest rappers of all time have had train wreck flows, but we recognize their greatness anyhow.

krs-one for example. horrible flow, even borderline insane subject matter at times, but like immortal technique he always speaks his mind which very few are willing to do on record.

i agree in this respect though...from what i've seen, this guy is discussed quite frequently around here. there are countless other rappers who deserve some recognition.

As a fan of underground hip-hop i do enjoy Immortal Technique, not every song. But he has really good ones such as:

Freedom of Speech
Harlem Streets
Angel of Death
Internally Bleeding

I'm not saying he's the best. I'm not even saying he's the best of the underground. But I like him. And he is good.

Haters all up in this thread.

He may not be homopbobe, he may not be sexist(allthough the fact that he uses this kind of language i hope no one questions or justifys it) but still, to put it kindly he aint doing hip-hop, he is doing something else, if i had to be harsh, i would just say he sucks, but no i think i will keep it kind:D
Come on people, we shouldnt praise people just because their art contains politics, i mean you cant say that someone who drawed the (A) is a better drawer than picasso...The same with music, music is an art, i dont give a fuck if the one made it is an anarchist or capitalist, if his/her music is good(to me) period, its good, what he supports dont plays any matter to the art itself, if his/her music is shit but s/he is a communist, the music will still be shit!
Next time you are going to listen to music, let your brain open, its the only way to enjoy music;)

Lil Wayne obviously doesn't just make "mainstream, sexist crap" for "stereotyping" and "making money". If that's all he did why would he release songs like this:
