in this episode of wizards of Waverly place, i noticed they painted a big fat circle A on the wall. most of us here know what this is obviously, but why is it in this disney channel show? are they trying to secretly spread anarchy through the minds of the youth? what do you guys think of this? sorry if this isnt in the right category, i wasnt totally sure where to put this post. also, you dont have to watch the whole vid, just the first like 2 and a half mins, then the rest is irrelevant.

They probably put it up because it's one of the most cliche, overdone political symbols around. It has been almost totally co-opted by apolitical preteens going through a "rebellious" stage. As such, in popular culture, it has almost no real meaning. That's why it's non-threatening enough to put on fucking disney channel. Notice the distinct lack of hammer&sickles.

Dude... it's a circle with her initial in it!
It was a convenient frame for the pun. Greyscare has a point.
But I think the more important question here is ....
Why the hell were you watching wizards of Waverly place?!!!!:confused:

The claim that placing symbols in media sends "subliminal messages" is sort of strange. If people don't know what it means, how can it affect them? Could someone with some psychology experience explain? Like, if I don't know what the circle A stands for, how can that "subliminally" tell me that anarchism is good?

But I think the more important question is, how do you know the first initial of the character involved without him mentioning it?

It seems like an attempt to add a tiny bit of street cred to another saccharine, bland Disney show.In a way it might even be coopting and neutralizing the symbol, taking the rebelliousness out of it. IRL teenage graffiti artists would have more than a little rebelliousness, if not revolutionary politics. This was drained out of the scene, leaving just the anemic "A with a circle around it". The characters have the usual sickly sweet Disney insipidness.
Everything is done with the permission of adult authority and there's explicit concern for the officially designated hierarchy of the "congratulations committee" or whatever it was.

Hammer and sickles have become part of pop culture kitsche.

Meh, not nearly to the same extent though. You may see it on programming for slightly older viewers, but there's no way that shit is getting on a kid's show.

On the surface, it would appear that Disney is a multinational corporation that manufactures toys with child labor and pumps out soulless shows based exclusively on child research and manipulation, but underneath it's really a subversive anarchist organization. Really.

Why are there wizards at waverly's place, but no wizards at leftace's place? This has boggled me for years now.
