I just heard, and probably some of you did too, that 1,600 companies have laid-off. 500,000 people filing new jobless claims. An unemployment rate of 14.6 million, and when you factor in the underemployed part time worker and the people who have exhausted their claims, and given up looking, you are seeing over 24 million unemployed. And on top of this, the Bush corporate tax cuts are set to expire at the end of the year, which means more layoffs.Where are the protests, rallies, marches etc?.

I can only assume people are trying to figure out how to feed themselves and their families.
That and all the years of anti-left/pro-business propaganda, some might not even realize that this is just so wrong.

I read the thread title and for a second I thought you meant that the management layers of 1600 companies were laid off and I got hopeful. :(
As leftace has said, the years of anti-worker propaganda is taking effect. My guess is that many people would think it is purely the left-wing government's fault (as the right-wing has claimed so often), so the Tea Party is the current manifestation of workers' dissent in the US at the moment (although the Tea Party also has many petit-bourgeois elements in it as well).

I tried to change the Title lol lol, But the left has to be on the offensive, showing up at Tea party demos, and having a counter demo, showing up outside of the studio of Fox. The left has to have an "in your face" attitude with the "right", and, at the same time, educate the people. How bout setting up a speakers corner in your downtown area. I ran this by the local IWW, they said, "sounds like a good idea", that's as far as it went. People will have their opinions, but there is one thing for sure, there needs to be a hell of alot more of action by the left.

I won't go into the validity and accuracy of this assessment...but if that is more or less true, the situation is absolutely horrific :crying:

Remember that in times of economic crisis, many workers will resort to fascism as a way out. I was not at all surprised to hear that about the Tea Party when it began - I even thought it was running a little late.
