This was an amazing music video that spoke directly against US imperialism & the false ideals of the US being the "Land of the Free". Everyone should at least watch this once:

this makes the average enlisted look like a bloodthirsty monster. though i agree with the message, this focuses too much on the lowest ranks as if they were the ones wanting to do all of this. the real enemy is the officers corps and the politicians, not the soldier.

this video is also covering the ideology that is molded once one is in the military. its correct on that, that the goal is to make one violent and patriotic. but it, i think, is an issue of consciousness just like in the every day life of a civilian worker.

and yes, there are some who join who are comeplete fucks. im talking about those who have joined for the money, education, and hope for stability in life.

thats my opinion at least.

I figured id put this up because its cool as hell.

A few years old but spot on for its time. Its a bit outdated since the GOP's line has come under attack by even more reactionary forces though.

This guy is US Air Force. You can tell from the uniform and the way he does sit-ups. I wonder how much killing he is asked to do-- more likely keeping track of supplies and pushing paper.

In any case, the text (which I had to pause the video to actually read) was worthwhile. The Iraq war is fucking stupid, and the resistance is understandable. Still, when, I look at this video, I think it alludes to but does not address the central issue of workers in the military.

I was in the US Army for about six months before deserting. I don't remember ever meeting any other Private who joined out of patriotism, desire to kill other people, or any such motivation. Everyone I met was poor working class like me. We joined because we were looking at a dead end-- working all our lives in gas stations, fast food joints, call centers, etc. The military offered us a steady income, money to go to university, and a chance to get out of poverty. That's why I (and all of my friends from the Army) enlisted.

When you get in, you realize how totally fucked up it is. You lose any kind of freedom and democracy you thought you had. They do terrible things. That's what this video is about. I really wish I could like this video, but I think it's a bit flippant and it just doesn't communicate the absolute horror of the military. I don't know any way to really get it across to someone who hasn't experienced it, but fucking hell it's so bad.

I hope this guy got out. Then, I hope he went back to his post and shouted tirades of abuse to the officers and NCO's who thought they controlled his life and now can do fuck-all to him. We should all give a big "fuck you" to every officer and senior NCO in any military branch. They are the problem-- not the E1 through E4's.

For the PVT's, PFC's, and SPC's, we should offer nothing but solidarity and sympathy, but kick the shit out of and fuck every single fucking LT, CPT, SSG, SFC, and up that you fucking see. They are the imperialists. They are the ones who kill. They are the ones who force everyone else to kill. They have fucking blood on their hands and they deserve to suffer themselves. We should have nothing but hate in our hearts for those sadistic motherfuckers.

^ The airforce has ground combat units as well...

one of my friends(who i wont go too far into detail about) did 2 tours in Afghanistan. Saw combat many times. Worked with the army a lot. and guess what his primary job was? loading and unloading cargo planes.

Sorry about the negative comments regarding the Air Force. They seem to have a better standard of living in comparison to the other branches. Still, if they're having to do combat, that sucks.

I have a friend. He was a reservist. He was meant to be a "hospital nutritionist." The Army never got around to sending him to the appropriate school, so he was just a cook. He got deployed to Kuwait in OIF 04-05. When he got there, KBR had been contracted to run the dining facilities, so he wasn't needed for cooking. Instead, he got to run supply convoys into Iraq. It's just another example of the stupid, evil fucking Army. My buddy just wanted to pay for college and help people who were hurt, and he was sent into a dangerous combat job.

While I was doing out-processing for the Army, one of the other deserters I met was a light vehicle mechanic in a National Guard unit. His unit was meant to deploy to Iraq and run a prison. He didn't want any part of it, so he just stopped showing up to drill and never showed up for deployment. He told horrible stories he'd heard from his mechanic buddies who were in Iraq at that time running a prison. Evil shit.

i wasnt really defending any particular branch.

my friend was actually talking about how the AF views itself and how one can only get past colonel i think by becoming a pilot. he was talking about how the leadership is really disconnected with the AF units on the ground because all they think about is pilots.

You say that now, but when they're playing it in all the clubs, you'll be dancing too, and when everyone is walking around with "I'm So Military" t-shirts, you'll buy one too.

The song was so terrible I couldn't watch past the first 30 seconds. But I think that criticism of military personnel has to be very sensitive, as many soldiers are more or less pawns.

EDIT: On the Youtube sidebar, it seems that Onison (the Youtube user who made the video in the OP) has made several videos of "I'm so _____" and they're all equally painful and terrible to watch.

You should watch the channel "OnisionSpeaks". He's got some great things to talk about. Not everything I agree with, but still essentially watchable.

These type of videos frustrate me a bit, mostly because my dad is in the army. Like Vacant said, the video makes the average soldier out to be a bloodthirsty killer. I'm against the Iraq war, and I'm against imperialism, but my dad is in charge of testing and coming up with the most effiective armor troops can use. His job helps to protect soldiers, and he is a very good hearted man.

Song was really annoying as well.

Yeah I've watched his channel before. I don't like the way he frames his arguments or discussions on things.

Most people I know (in the UK) that have considered joining the army have done so mostly because it's one of the only jobs they could realistically get. There aren't a lot of jobs around at the moment, and to a lot of people, joining the army might seem like the only option.
