Generally, in our circles, it refers to various politicians and trade union leaders who seek these positions to achieve power and personal benefits. Typically they were very pronounced in reformist movements. They may claim to be good socialists but in reality they are only seeking to enrichen themselves.

In a socialist context, opportunists are people who hitch rides in revolutionary parties and organizations, not to carry out revolution, but to increase their own clout. It goes hand in hand with revisionism, which is the unwarranted abandonment, watering-down, twisting and subsequent destruction of leftist principles.
