There are a few deathcore bands that are enjoyable. Elysia, Animosity, Knights of the Abyss(Local), Misericordiam, and a few others.

Decaying Waste Lyrics
If words are lethal weapons you've run out of ammo
its the same old fucking same old
you need to calibrate to a new debate
the era of the police state
take a stand against the man
force fed lies down through your throat
until you choke on those words that you greedily spoke
a generation of blinded men
following every trend
their ignorance is beyond my own comprehension
the pressure wont stop chaotic tension
what are you living for if you cant speak your mind
don't be the one left behind
the decaying waste of mankind
two eyes you're still fucking blind
GET FUCKED
use your voice you have the choice
neutral will be the first to die, asking why
corrupt leaders of the masses
separating them into classes
rich or poor we all want more
if talk is cheap then the voiceless are cheap whores
sacrifice!
refuse to use all force-fed lies
once a mindless slave
but buried fear into the grave
reload your words
don't follow the herd
a call to action we will be heard
a rock through every fuckers window
I rise like a crescendo
apathy has a placebo affect
I'll disconnect your head from your neck
you don't use it you fucking piece of shit
you make me fucking sick!

I don't really like shit like that. And I know there are kids who are not scene that are into deathcore (I have friends in a deathcore band) but I also don't really like death metal, or tough guy hardcore. So that shit really has nothing for me, and the scene is in large ways dominated by scene kids and/or wannabe tough guys.
As for what they listen to vs. "legit deathcore", this is a JFAC thread, bro.;)

But bands like the effort (who are awesome, as a band and as dudes) don't really draw that "tough guy" crowd. Thats for bands like Tyrant and bullshit on seventh dagger records.
Some people would probably consider me a "tough guy", I have "stay negi" tattooed on my knuckles, I get into fights/bully people sometimes, I crowd punch and stage dive feet first/head walk. But I don't do that stuff cause I think its "tough" its just what I do.

Interesting enough, Comeback Kid was one of the bands that really got me from Metalcore to Hardcore Punk (along with Empty Vision, who are fucking awesome, but defunct, sadly). Have Heart is what got me back into Hardcore Punk after I quit it during a small 60s/70s rock and metal phase. I still listen to Comeback Kid, but I don't like Have Heart anymore. I pretty much stepped away from the Youth Crew'ish bands, except Youth Of Today and Gorilla Biscuits. I really don't like the attitude they express and attract =/
I think I listened to The Effort a while back. Hm. Last.fm keeps suggesting it, but it's really not the style of HC I dig currently, from what I remember of it.
As far as life-situation reflection goes, nothing beats Touche Amore, More Than Life and La Dispute for me ~~

Most if not all genres are made up of a majority of shitty artists. This is true for metalcore, deathcore, mathcore the same as it is for hardcore punk, death metal, thrash metal, folk, jazz, etc. The difference is, that in some genres the crappier artists are more popular, while in others the good artists are.

When I say tough guy I'm talking about the "camo shorts/flat bill hat/brass knuckle/urban" type stuff, like terror on crack. (I like terror, but they are in a large way responsible for bands like fight everyone) As opposed to the "fade haircut/baseball shirt/varsity jacket/bro" type stuff, like youth crew.

I don't get what the big deal is about them. They're better recorded than live, that's for sure. The last show I saw them at, Jordan (vocalist) kept breathing extremely heavy on the mic. He was kinda shady when I met him a few years ago. Oh well. Not to be a dick, just rambling...
On topic: I still hate deathcore, and totally prefer this Wintersun I'm listening to! I saw JFAC live back in 2006, and they were boring. The other bands at the show ruled, like Misery Index :thumbup1: Everyone else wasnt into them... damn hipsters.

Eh... well, there's not so much difference between the two crowds in Germany. Except that sXe'rs are too elitist to listen to stuff like Hatebreed or Terror, at times.

I thought they sounded exactly like on the records when I saw them live - and Jordan does breathe quite noise on some parts of the records - it sounds sort of whiny, which greatly adds to the somewhat despaired feeling some songs have. What I found somewhat disappointing about their live show was that the crowd didn't really do anything, but well, they had a damn shitty timeslot.
Anyway, La Dispute are fucking awesome. Their lyrics, the continuous symbolism on Somewhere..., the foreshadowing of their musical development through the Here, Hear EP series. Their artwork is pretty great, and self-made. And their politics are pretty neat too. Afaik, they are involved in a bunch of local projects (they donated money from EP sales to homelessness projects, too). They have some sociopolitical issues on their blog every now and then, and seem to have a rather system-critical stance in general:
our educational system tells us
that we can all be
big winners
it hasn't told us
about the gutters
or the suicides.
- Five, off Here, Hear II
And I remember in a basement sharing sweat
With all these stranger boys and girls,
“We’ll change the world!” We sang,
“We’ll change the world!” But,
Nothing seems to change and
They say none of them will listen,
But I still see much more power in that basement than in elected politicians.
- Nine, off Here, Hear III
Also, fucking Solidarity everywhere in The Castle Builders:
So build a home for your family, and
Build a castle for your friends, now
Set their beds with sheets and blankets,
Keep them safe until the end.
I’ve felt the damage and burn from the fallout,
My love failed but theirs prevailed,
My friends, I’m only flesh and bone but
I won’t let you die alone.
So leave our hearts at the foot of the mountain.
Let our burdens be locked in the stone.
If you will help me roll it upward
I won’t let you die alone.
I see a beauty springing upward from the earth and from out our hearts.
For all the bad that seems to plague us, I swear to you there’s good.
The other bands at the show ruled, like Misery Index :thumbup1: Everyone else wasnt into them... damn hipsters.
I prefer Misery Signals.

Around here the two popular things are powerviolence and reviving 90s tough guy (which I like, much more than current tough guy), like blood for blood/agnostic front/one life crew. And all the local hardcore bands have members who are edge and not edge, and they all played my birthday show which was a keg party.
But I'm suprised to see you say there isn't much difference in the scenes there, I was under the impression that northern europe had a vibrant posi/youth crew scene.

Maybe I didn't phrase myself correctly: I can't see many people which are not part of that scene at whatever hardcore show I go to. It's like, no matter what kind of hardcore (except metalcore, that's 90% scenster emos), there's always a majority of Youth Crew sXe guys.
