for some random reason, i have been able to deal with all the addiction i had so far in my life except that. cafeine, useless spending, over eating etc etc
i just cant fucking helping it, and apparently your avearge granola bar contain pretty much the same amount of fat and sugar than a freaking snickers bar.
its not a question of money, i could easily purchase huuge quantity of candy bar and sugary stuff without much problems, i want to do it for my health.
i just finished a fucking box of oreo cookies in 2 day, i feel like shit for that.
I guess my lifestyle is to blame a lot for that, i am an indoor kind of person, and indoor activities such has watching TV, computer, reading Marx etc etc make me hungry.
its probably too serious for chit chat, but eh, i take suggestion.
i just find it so lame that it took me 1 week to say goodbye to cafeine but that in year of trial and error, i havnt been able to stop eating candy bar and cookies.

oh god, I had such a massive sugar addiction for a while in school last year (oddly enough, I never craved sugar before going off to school). It had gotten to the point that I physically felt sick like really really sick because I ate too much sugar. I don't know what happened to my will power since then, but I could have a candy factory in my house now, and I'd feel and eat nothing.
What worked for me was to just eliminate all candy type things from my living space. Generally candy and chocolate bars have their own isle in a grocery store, so they are avoidable that way. Also, not having any ready made sugar products, made me turn to baking for my sugar. I learnt to make some ballin recipes and monitor my own sugar intake. Also maybe trying to find some sugar substitutes (I don't mean splenda), I mean something like yogurt which is healthier than a bowl full of skittles.

When you shop, don't buy those things. If they're in your house you will probably eat them judging by what you said, so you need to just not buy things like oreos at all. And avoid telling yourself "just one can't hurt" and things like that.

Regarding yoghurt, if your buying those little flavoured tubs, its a terrible idea. They are fucking loaded with sugar. Yoghurt is great, once reason is because it has probiotics. You know what kills the probiotics? Sugar.
Danyboy, your right about 'health foods' like musli bars. Health foods are killing you. Don't eat them.
Danyboy, regarding your sugar addicition, are you actually physically dependant on it (is this possible?) or do is it just a psychological craving/habit?
Either way, good on you for trying to change your diet and lifestyle. Sugars as they are found in almost all the processed foods of the modern world are poison. If you are going to do one good thing for your health, eating less sugar should be priority one.
Obviously will power is going to be important. I do not drink soda. I've literally had 2/3 cans of soda in the last 6 months. Now adays I don't even want it, it literally unappetising thinking about it. Same goes for cakes, candy and processed pre-packaged you buy in the freezer section of the supermarket.
In food you prepare yourself, consider replacing sugar with an artificial sweetener if you crave it. Sucralose and aspartame are not advisable substitutes as both carry negative health effects. Use stevia extract. It has zero effect on blood sugar and is literally thousands of times sweeter than it's equivalence of sugar.
Of course, stevia is only going to help you in the foods you have a say in making. Its important to remember that almost all the processed food you eat has added sugars. Read the labels for yourself. As such, its important that you prepare your own food from fresh ingredients so you know what you are eating!
Don't drink soda or juice, drink water
Don't eat cookies or chocolate, eat nuts
Don't eat flavoured milk or yoghurt, eat natural greek style yoghut with fresh fruit and stevia
Don't buy frozen pizzas, make your own
Don't eat canned soup, make it from fresh ingredients
The list is endless!
Good luck!
Nic.

I wouldn't call it an 'addiction'. If I recall correctly, sugar can cause an insulin spike, which then leads to an insulin crash, and therefore makes you hungry, probably for more stuff with sugar in them.
What generally works for me when I feel like eating something is either to drink some water, or eat something spicy. Nuts would probably also work. Of course, this depends on if you like spicy things (I'm Indian, so yes), but they do tend to quench your appetite. I have also heard it recommended to eat more, smaller, meals rather than three large ones, so as to keep your metabolism going, and prevent you from being hungry between meals. I don't do this, because I'm too lazy to walk over and prepare meals ever few hours, but it's worth considering if you have a problem with snacks.

I just don't buy snacks anymore. Also, drink lots of water and sometimes cleaning your teeth stops you from eating because it makes stuff taste funny. Grapes are good, and berries. They have like practically no calories, but you can eat them like sweets.

Do what I did and get addicted to salty foods instead. It's still not terribly good for you, but at least pumpkin seeds have iron, protein, and vitamins, unlike Three Musketeers or Snickers or what have you.
Or, another solution that may sound stupid at first - get a lot of red hots and eat about 3 or 4 cups over the course of an hour or two. No sugary food in the world will taste good for about 2 weeks after that. :D
Also, of course, drink lots of water. That's a good first step towards just eating less food in general.

Nearly every food in the grocery store contains sugar.

Well the "sugar" that you crave is also available in fruits like oranges and pineapples and so eating that should quench your sweet tooth if that is really what you are dealing with here. Those are pretty harmless. You could also go for things like honey as substitute for example in your tea and whatnot.
Odds are it is something more emotional/primal.
