I seen a guy wear a shirt with Ches' face on it the other day, not exactly the first time I've seen someone wearing one, and my first reaction was the usual mild annoyance at seeing the hypocritical combination of consumerism and communism.

But then I got thinking, maybe this guy actually is a leftie, and if he's going to wear a shirt anyway it might as well be one that supports his beliefs...

So maybe we should lay off people who wear them because maybe they are trying to make a political statement and not just a fashion one.

Or maybe not, I dunno...What do you guys think?

a lot of people who wear che shirts, just wear them for like a rebel look, or for the lulz, I've only ever come across maybe 2 people who have worn che shirts and are actually lefties.

I have one. I also have an Oscar Romero and a Malcolm X shirt as well. Best part is, I get the most dirty looks for the Malcolm shirt, probably because I'm a blue-eyed, grafted devil.

I might go all out and get a shirt with Mao on it.

Or while I'm at it, why not Stalin? If people are going bring him up whenever we mention communism anyway, we might as well beat them to it. :D

Iv'e tried to find a Trotsky shirt, to no avail.

I do have a Ho Chi Minh shirt, but it seems few people know who he is. One guy who did recognize it was a Vietnam vet who had been in the G.I. resistance movement who was working as a custodian at the college I go to, and we are now friends.

So sometimes it does help you find comrades. =).

Iv'e tried to find a Trotsky shirt, to no avail.

Aren't there any Trotskyist groups who sell them for considerable "solidarity contributions"? ;)

I have a Che shirt, and I don't really get any dirty looks. But I am kind of wary about wearing it, seeing as people usually stereotype che shirt wearers with stupid radical rich white kids that don't know what their talking about. I can usually handle it, though.

It's not hypocritical at all. The primary purpose of a t-shirt is to function as clothing, having Che's face on it isn't hypocritical at all. That's unless you believe in lifestyle-politics.

You mean like this one (http://www.zazzle.com/chairman_mao_rtfm_little_red_book_tshirt-235979822616256625)?

That's what Café Press is for, dude. Alternatively, this (http://95066.spreadshirt.com/us/US/Shop/Index/Index/design/3757776).

Sure people have a right to wear che shirts. However I reserve my right to give them dumb looks.

my homeboy brough a shirt back from china for me that had mao's face on it. I wore that thing to many places and received many dirty looks. At the time i was only slightly amused with the politics associated therewith. Now, much later, i have been wearing a che shirt, fully conscious of what he stood for, and what the movement is all about, and for me, it's not about fashion, politics, shock, or anything else. It's like someone else said. If i'm gonna buy a t-shirt, why not have the image of someone/something i am fond of on it. I damn sure am not going to buy a LaCoste Polo for 80 dollars at Macy's.

I used to have a Stalin shirt, but it went missing some time ago. I made it myself using one of those sheets you run through an printer and iron on. It had a line art portrait of Stalin, and below it said "STALIN The original man of steel!" I got some strange looks sometimes.
