It's pretty hard to piss a dog off when you're it's 'alpha'- when you piss a cat off it doesn't hesitate for a second to attack and defend itself liberally and to the point of getting more from you than you got from it. I admire this. Autonomy in action. Dog lovers are authoritarian.

My Saint Bernards. The one on the left passed last July, and I miss her terribly. Cats are great, but a house just isn't a home without a dog. Big, dumb, friendly and more loyal than any human could ever be. No living thing is so genuinely happy to see you after an absence than a dog. Saints are so kind-hearted and gentle, and love their owners unconditionally. In a harsh world of cruel people, bitter politics and shameful degradation, nothing eases the day like being greeted at the door by two big, lovable, drooly dogs.

In its flawless grace and superior self-sufficiency I have seen a symbol of the perfect beauty and bland impersonality of the universe itself, objectively considered, and in its air of silent mystery there resides for me all the wonder and fascination of the unknown. The dog appeals to cheap and facile emotions; the cat to the deepest founts of imagination and cosmic perception in the human mind. It is no accident that the contemplative Egyptians, together with such later poetic spirits as Poe, Gautier, Baudelaire and Swinburne, were all sincere worshippers of the supple grimalkin.
Cats, basically.

No, it's nothing even remotely like that. It suggests rather that this 'not giving a shit' is part of a cat's charm--"a symbol of the perfect beauty and bland impersonality of the universe itself,". I don't understand how such a misreading as yours can be made by anyone who cares to comprehend even 50% of the small excerpt.

Definitely...
But really, I would never punch a kitty. They're just too goddamn adorable...
Although once, when my cat Tulip was a kitten, it started taking a shit and I went to pick it up, 'cause I didn't know it was trying to poop, and I got kitten-shit all over my glove... I didn't punch it, but damn...
Tulip was one of my favourites. There's a picture someone took while my family had our Christmas tree up...

Jesus goddamn christ I was being facetious.

Oh clever you.

He will totally bite your dick off if you cross him. Consider yourself warned.
