I've written a novel set in an authoritarian society, exploring how political nihilism may once again take hold.

It's available for free download via Google Books or lulu.com eBooks site.

I'd be interested in feedback from readers.

The Principals rose very early next day. Before six o’clock they were sat round the breakfast table with the tablet computer in front of them, open on the front page of the News Today website. Ben had set the page to refresh every minute. At six o’clock they got what they wanted. It was front page news. A shock headline screamed, “Disappeared in the night” and a sub-heading read “Snatched from his own bed by Enforcers”. The graphic designers had cut out a head and shoulders portrait of Jack from the family photo that Esme sent and removed the background, resulting in a stark and attention-grabbing image. Esme was overjoyed they were on the front page, she felt that everybody in the country would hear their story. Esme read aloud from the article.

“Father of two, Jack Principal, was dragged naked from the bed where he slept with his wife. Enforcers broke into the Principal’s home in the middle of the night, terrifying the family of four. Heroic son Ben, 26, was thrown to the ground by armed officers as he tried to defend his dad. The Enforcers took Jack away while his wife looked on in terror. The officers gave no reason for the apprehension and responded to Esme’s screams by pushing her backwards, causing her to fall and injure herself.
Enforcers have since disclosed that Jack was arrested in connection with the cyanide gas attack on the Haas Corporation tower, although they have not presented a shred of evidence to prove Jack’s involvement.
As if the ordeal were not traumatic enough for Esme and her family, the prison authorities are still refusing to say where Jack is being held. Essentially, Jack has been disappeared by the authorities.”
