View Full Version : Your top 3 beer picks and why

This is also stickyable as 'what are you drinking?"
First on the list- I love the flavor- I have not disliked anything from this brewery yet- it reminds me of Autumn in PA- Dogfish Head Craft Brewery's 'Punkin' Ale'- It's an ale brewed with pumpkin and spices.
http://legalbeer.com/images/dogfish%20head%20punkin%20ale.jpg
Next on the list also reminds me of Autumn- From Germany Paulaner Brewery's 'Oktoberfest Marzen'
http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_u05_9OEU3b8/SuEsRyF0SnI/AAAAAAAAATc/xa59v1sAMhE/s320/100_5873a.jpg
I'm going to cheat here- the third place spot rotates- anything from Chimay to 'Three Philosophers' to Weyerbacher Brewery's 'Blithering Idiot' Barley Wine Style Ale.
Right now it's two- for their inexpensiveness to flavor to alcohol content because let's be honest- nobody wants to drink a beer and not feel the alcohol.

I like
Murphy's Irish Stout (or most imperial stouts really)
Sam Adams (or Brooklyn Brewery Craft Beer)
Presidente (and Peroni, but Presidente is cheaper and similar)
for a variety of reasons including taste
The Douche
10th August 2010, 04:19
1) Yeungling traditional lager, America's oldest brewery, decent taste, affordable.
2) National Bohemian, from my state, iconic, cheap, and tastes good enough.
3) PBR, duh.

1.) Sam Adams
2.) Amstel
3.) Asahi
I also like Dos Equs. This is a bit pathetic because I'm drinking a Labatts Blue-its the cheapest good beer we could find, w/out descending to Old Milwaukee territory.

Bud Light,
PBR,
Keystone
'cause I'm a cheap drunk.
But I welcome all beer, any beer.
Revolte_Wolf
10th August 2010, 06:18
I'm more picky now, something about keystone light has just gone gross and I wont bother with it anymore.
1. Miller High Life ( taste like memories )
2. Heineken
3. Coors
I really wont drink anything else unless maybe here and there blue moon, or mickys and four loco, if those two would count.
Raúl Duke
10th August 2010, 07:01
I really dislike keystone (I bet natty ice taste better...but I wouldn't know)...but bud light is fine and I bet even PBR is better. Miller High Life is ok, I've had it a few memorable times as well.
Although I don't like Heineken (and I'm not alone, some dutch members here call it shit) or Coors (but both aren't as bad as Keystone).
1.) Sam Adams
:thumbup1:
3.) AsahiThat has a particular taste...a very particular one. It was one of those taste where you can't really say you like but it would be a lie to say you don't
Although I only tried it once in New Jersey

I can't ever pick a favourite because there is too much of a variety of beer for me to be able to sensibly point at three and say that, yes, without a doubt those are my favourites. However, by approximate volume consumed my favourites are as follows:
1) http://www.leatherssmithy.co.uk/images/bombard.jpg Well's Bombardier. It's what's on tap at my regular and fairly cheap there.
2) kronenbourg 1664 http://beeradvocate.com/im/beers/3970.jpg It's six for a fiver at my offie and not terrible for the price. I do live in fear of CAMRA lynch mobs coming for me whenever I buy it though
3) Harveys Best Bitter. http://www.thepublican.com/Pictures/Thumb/j/r/v/Harveys_Sussex_Best_Bitter.jpg Available in nearly every pub I've ever been in. Very, very drinkable (although by far not the best drink by the brewery [that would be the Old Ale or the Tom Paine Ale)) and usually reasonably priced, although the days are long gone when it was two quid for a pint at my local.
Rusty Shackleford
10th August 2010, 08:07
well i can list what i hate
1:Budlight Lime - disgusting
2:Coors - water
3:Keystone - water
What i like but still havent found the god beer:
guinness -smooth, delightful
new castle brown ale - strong flavor great texture
pbr - flavorful, cheap, and not so watery
Invincible Summer
10th August 2010, 10:44
I don't drink anymore, but when I did I especially liked:
- Young's Double Chocolate Stout
- St-Ambroise Apricot Wheat Beer
- Cannery Brewing Maple Stout

It's hard to pick three that are simply "the best" in my estimate. There are many great beers that I've only ever had once or twice, but which are still great. However, there are also a few that I repeatedly go out of my way to get, so I'd say that's my top 3 (in no particular order).

Most Chinese beer is lousy but Tsingtao is really good. Hans Beer, made near Xi'an in northwest China, is surprisingly good. Baoji Beer, made by the same company I thing, is also good.

Why is American beer so shit and taste like dirty water?
hahahaha, THAT is a good question. For truly, the majority of beers known to be american like coors and budweiser, and old millwaukee and all that garbage, are straight up junk. But this country does have a thriving brewing community of independent brewers dedicated to real beer. If anyone is ever in the PA region looking for a fantastic brew, check out Troeg's Nuggect Nectar, or any other brew by Troeg's. It's one of the gems in my area for sure.

I loved Troeg's 'Rugged Trail' brown ale.
There are tons of decent breweries in PA.
Allagash Brewery in Maine produces some delicious stuff as well- which would have been my third choice.

I don't think I've ever had an american beer (discounting all the Bud and the gulp of Miller I've had for obvious reasons) but a brewery down my way do an "American Pale Ale" which is quite nice. I've heard that yanks tend to make reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaly hoppy beers, though [tbf I quite like my beer hoppy so...].

A lot of American microbreweries and smaller companies put out decent beer.
But yeah.

2) Red Stripe (I too like Red Stripe.)

I've recently developed a taste for Budweiser. I actually don't think it's that bad.
I couldn't really list a top three, but most of my favorite beers have a cork in the top. They're usually $6-10 for 750ml, though, so those are for celebrations and such.

Unibroue beers and PBR up in here. Seriously, PBR is not that bad for a beer you can get 12 for 12$ for and brews made by Unibroue are harder and tastier than most American/Canadian stuff. I think this beer should be taken off the market & outlawed for sale. My husband can drink any other brand of beer without any issues or concerns. However after drink just one of this " CHeap Steel Shit", he becomes alcohol induced phychic to the point that he is mental unstable. I experience fear & uncertains for him when he drinks this "Shit". I think this cheap shit was designed as another means of keeping a poor man down. Fair warning to those who even think about drink this stuff it cause sever distortion & hallucinations. I just hope nothing bad happen to my husband under the influence of this bad product.

Amstel? That's a greek beer!
eeeuh, i guess you don't know that the amstel is the river that flows through amsterdam (wich in it self is an abriviation from "amstel dam")? so amstel is an dutch beer silly boy.
anyway, best beers? to much to mention but this is my current favorite:

brugse zot, an awsome belgian beer coming in blond at 6 or double at 7.5%.
the same brewery also got an excelent triple called straffe hendrik wich is 9%.
next on my list of beers i really want to try is the "sink the bismarck"

wich comes at an whopping 41% and apperntly is still very nice to drink.

Westvleteren is overrated.
I just had one, it was good, but not spectacular.

fuck i love cider, but that shit sneaks up on you. last friday i was able to down like 5 pints of the stuff in a row because it tastes like apple juice before throwing up
also, english style cider like strongbow is unavailable where i live, all we have is crappy "ice" cider :(
yeah, i was very drunk the night i had cider. and im usually able to control my drinking but its just far too delicious!
nothing negative besides a hangover the next morning though:lol:
