The idea that teachers should decide (or have a major part in the decision making process) on things like the reduction of class size etc, as opposed to politicians, or that doctors should decide about things relating to medicine. They're the ones that know the craft, so they make the decisions? Just some literature on the topic seems to say that politicians would be replaced by scientists.

I think its more like professors on the subject, people with a high education on the subject make the decisions. not the actual teachers who teach all the students just the people who have chosen to specialize in the area.
That kinda what i got from reading a site talking about it.

Its a good idea but, who are these professors and how hard is it for the common worker like the average teacher in a school to get their say in?

Who influences these professors in decison making? Is there a way to keep them in check?

Don't the professors then essentially just replace the politicians?
I thought the idea was to stop decisions being taken in far off ivory towers, and give the people on the ground a say.

One of the best ways of working out an optimal working model is to gather the input of those who are actually involved in the work, don't you think?

Keep them in check? In case they do what?

No, because the "professor" has no political or economic power over the teachers. Recommendations can be made, but if the teachers feel that they jeopardise their students' education, they are free to ignore them.
