View Full Version : Reactionary Chatter IX: GOD DIED TO GET AWAY FROM US

Welcome one and all to the new reactionary chatter.

Most of the old hands know what it is by now, but a quick refresher for anyone who doesn't:

This is for all the offtopic chat and other nonsense that doesn't fit on the main board. All the rules still apply so spamming, excessive flaming and discrimination is still not tolerated at all. Try to keep the atmosphere as pleasent as it has been (for the most part) in the other eight threads or I'll pick up my ball and go home.

I think that's it covered, so have fun.

I'm looking into buying a cyberpunk book, any ideas? I've heard of something like Neuromancer or Datamancer, but I'm not sure. Neuromancer is a fucking awesome book, as are the others in the series (I think it goes Neuromancer, Count Zero, Mona Lisa Overdrive). The other one that's basically an essential and is always mentioned (though I've never actually read it, despite wanting to for years now) is Snow Crash.

Jazzratt

So whats the story behind neuromancer? From a reader's perspective, that is I've not read it in a while (lent my copy to a guy who lost it) but basically this loser nobody hacker gets caught up in a huge conspiracy and ends up going into space where he meets some space rastas and encounters the insane end of a neo-aristorcatic family. There are more elements to the plot and far more events but that's the bits that really stood out for me (seriously, space rastas are fucking awesome).

As for Count Zero (the book I've read far more) it contains one of my favourite quotes: "And, for an instant, she stared directly into those soft blue eyes and knew, with an instinctive mammalian certainty, that the exceedingly rich were no longer even remotely human"

Ok guys and gals. You surely remmember that old-most-seen-youtube-video about the evolution of dance. You know, this one:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dMH0bHeiRNg

Well, I just did a video that historically looks at the ACTUAL evolution of dancing that occurred. I show all the dances that were created per decade, ever since the 1890's (with exception to the 1900's) until the 2000's. Enjoy!

P.S: The initial intro with the music going back is sort of the time travelling moment, so one can better understand both the music and the dances.

Can you guess in which decade was the Moonwalk invented ;)?

Nice video. are you just really into American culture and the stuff that influenced it?

It's just that American culture has more early material since technology developments happened earlier. Earlier sound recordings and video footage. Ideally I would do a global thing, but I simply do not have the time to view the historical information in the libraries. Since most of the information I used came from the internet, it saved me a lot of time.

While I don't believe in such things--my evil Reactionary family forced me to watch the Miss Universe Beauty Contest last night. (I believe that women are equal and have rights and I forget whatever else it is we Communists are supposed to believe.)

Anyway the woman that won--wore this red dress and said: "it's been 200 years since the Mexican Revolution and the color RED is a very important color ro me!" She sounds like a Commie--Revolution and Red!

What does your wife or child(ren) respond with when they ask you what you did at work today and you tell them you posted pictures of women showing their cleavage on a leftist political forum? They all seem to have clevage themselves so it is nothing new to them. As I said--they were the ones that made me watch the Miss Universe contest. They were all betting on Miss Albania and Miss Canada.

ALL RIGHT. Enough talk about women.

I know you guys already think i'm awesome, but just in case you were having doubts, I made another video.

THE EVOLUTION OF POPULAR MUSIC BY YEAR (1890-2009) (USA)

So, before you watch my amazing historical video, a few notes you should read before:

This video is intended to give a very light overview of the most well known popular songs, by year, in the USA.

Very few effects of time travel are known, but one of them includes the sensation that the tracks are getting shorter and shorter as we approach our day and age.

All the pictures are intended to represent at least one of the original authors of the song WHEN it became a hit

Not always will the recording used match the described year (for obvious technological and quality reasons)

Why the U.S.A. alone? Information about its pop history is more easily available and dates further back, as well as the availability of some of the original songs' files.

Accuracy? I cann't guarantee 100% authenticity from the period between 1890 to 1949, but I can guarantee the authencity from that period onwards. My main source was the website musicoutfitters.

There's also been an increase in users being passive aggressive as fuck- where someone in a thread will say something that they 'disagree' with but rather than quote that person they'll post two posts under them replying in a passive way about it- it's border line trollism and it's obnoxious as shit.

It puts the original poster in a position to reply and refute what that passive aggressive person said in which case the passive asshole will claim they're being attacked or more often than not they will simply not reply-.....

...until page three of the thread comes around and they do it again to the same user

I always quote people, the main reason being that I can look at what people actually say and try to reply accordingly.

From PRAVDA:

A monument to the most famous nun of all times - Mother Teresa - will appear in Russia. The name of this Catholic ascetic, who dedicated her life to helping other people, is recognized in the whole world and is closely associated with holiness and kindness. This year, the outstanding woman would celebrate her 100th birthday

This is the most fabulous invention of modern science--a bread machine. It makes FABULOUS hot home made bread anytime you want it. If the Bourgeoise ever see a Revolution brewing all they have to do is pass out these to the Proetarians. everybody would just say home and eat bread.

I just got one--it is the most wonderful thing in the world.

Of course it then becomes a question of whether it's more efficient for every household to have a bread maker or to have their bread made to order by a local bakery.

There's a WORLD of difference. Bread from a bakery is fine--but there is nothing better than hot from the oven (or bread machine in this case) bread still steaming. You put a little butter or jam on it--and it's like nothing you can buy in any store.

Also mine doesn't look like this the one in the picture either--but it was the only picture I could find that had the bread in the machine--rather than looking like a big white box with lights and buttons.

Hence why I said "made to order" - you contact the bakery, it immediately starts making what you want, and then delivers the item(s) to you, still hot.

As a system it would probably work best for large cities since there would be a greater constant demand that would minimise idle times and enable economies of scale.

Actually I kind of like Tera Melos. FWIW that's what we we used to call free form jamming back when I was a guitarist in a band. As a matter of fact every now and then I get together with a few friends at a divorced buddy's (the fact that he's divorced means you can play loud) and jam away. We play songs for a while then we just jam for hours. Not exactly that song in the video but close enough--we'd seem to have more drum solos.

I bet I can even tell what guitar the guy is playing--a Mexican Strat.

Anamanaguchi--I find a bit duller though melodic enough--I'd listen to them.

[Edit] Just got the old Magnatone M-15 out of the garage (my usual amp do jure is a much dirtier Tweed Delux) and jammed along with the Terrans. I'd let you hear it-- but I kind of sucks. :(

The M-15, if you know anything about amps. Very clean sounding tube amp.

Since there isn't any music from the future yet, I picked some contemporay electronic music and tried to draw a continuous line between all decades.

Well, maybe you'd like to know that certain nicknames, like "The Roaring Twenties is a phrase used to describe the 1920s, principally in North America but also in London, Paris and Berlin. The phrase was meant to emphasize the period's social, artistic, and cultural dynamism."

Usually changes that may be started in the U.S.A don't restrict themselves and, instead, travel to the whole world.

Then again, you are right that other nicknames, like the nickname "Dirty Thirties" are indeed just meant to the U.S.A and Canada, since it "was a period of severe dust storms causing major ecological and agricultural damage to American and Canadian prairie lands from 1930 to 1936 (in some areas until 1940)."

The Fighting Forties is also a more global nickname, since it refers to all the allies and axis of world war 2

The swinging sixties on the other hand, is a more geographically restricted nickname, since it refers mainly to "the fall or relaxation of some social taboos especially relating to sexism and racism that occurred during this time.", especially in London and the U.S.A.

But i'm glad you liked the video. If you have some other ideas for the musical tastes, then share them. I'd be interested to see what other people think that could become a mainstream hit in the future.

The first one is by Shpongle - the first time I ever heard their music I loved it instantly. Check out this flash animation (http://gprime.net/flash.php/flashback) featuring one of their tracks. Pretty much all of their albums are worth listening to.

The second one is a track from Future Sound of London's album Lifeforms, which I highly recommend if you enjoyed the track. I like to listen to it when I'm smoking or in a meditative mood.

The third track is from Bedrock, who are better known for producing house/trance tracks.

In all seriousness now, I think its impossible to imagine what sort of music will people of the future dig.

Besides everything there currently is right now (which many people will still like), there will be TONS of new stuff

Perhaps there will be music so chilly that it will require some special software implant in our brains in order to hear it

Perhaps there will be music so hardcore that if we, 2010s contemporaries, where shown that music, our ears could explode without some sort of physical implant.

Perhaps there will be music that will stimulate other senses, music you can touch and taste and smell as opposed to just listening and seeing the videoclip.

I'd personally prefer to be open-minded about it all, try everything, and then make up my mind on what experiences I want to repeat.

I'm sure there's a logic to it and it all makes sense. Well yeah but it's not egalitarian at all because we as communists are, for some reason, held to some absurd standard to the point that we're not allowed to enforce rules on our forum while everyone else on the internet can have as much mod abuse as they want.

It's your own fucking fault. Deliberately disobying the rules that are written in plain english at the start of that thread really means you're not entitled to whineabout the infractions you have.

i got an infraction for posting a dot because i wasnt sure how to delete a post so i edited it to not get an infraction.

am i really ruining your day with my dot? . . . . . . . . . . . . . its more a statement of my inability to post correctly on a forum than my desire to "troll", which i haven't done in any post but its what i keep getting infractions for.

now if i wanted to troll i'd complain that putting it in plain english is definitely an anglo-saxon anti-third worldist tendency. maybe i speak Mayalam?

I really like singing and chanting and yelling at law enforcement officers but the number one element missing from marches, actions and demonstrations is drums. I love drums- I don't mean hippy bullshit happy drum circle crap- I mean legit bass and snare marching drum with a serious beat going- and horns, whistles and other noise makers.

So guys there's this awesome game called Minecraft.

http://minecraft.net

It's a little project some guy from England Sweden has been working on. It's a game about blocks. You're a blocky guy in a world made of blocks. And you explore, build things, and eck out a little empire of your own in a world made of blocks, populated by fuzzy barnyard animals above ground and other things in the limitless cave networks that you will almost certainly stumble across eventually

Oh, and the map is literally endless.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NszGurDUlHc

See, when you get close to the edge, the game generates a whole new section and seamlessly tacks that on. That video up there? That's what happens if you keep walking forever. It never ends, kid.

Anyway the game is free until about the 20th, so download it and try it out. If you like it, buy it for 10 euro. It's easy to play but hard to master, but the gameplay really is so simple that even Bud Struggle could get into it. There's MinecraftWiki (http://minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Main_Page)anyway, to help you if you can't figure out what you're doing

So yeah get in on this, kids.

And when you do get the game, make sure to find shelter by nightfall.

But there are already some pretty fucked up genres in the 70's.

Hey folks, a couple of two more tunes, if you can call them that. They're pretty experimental, perhaps a bit too much. I dunno. You let me know.

Oh, one thing before you listen. I call this type of music Point & Click music, because its characterized by the fact that I only use my mouse to make sound on the virtual keyboard (I literally just point and click on the virtual keyboard), which means that I can't make joint notes/chords, and I generally won't use programmed drums. As such, the result is less "programmed" and much more "organic", making each final result something I will never be able to copy again spontaneously.

Bud, if someone can find a quote of Chopin calling for communist revolution, I'll join up.

I just checked the bio, and fortunately for me, Chopin's father left France in 1787, two years ahead of the mob and the guillotine. Frédéric died in 1849, and so would never have heard of wage slavery, dictatorship of the prolétariat, or materialism of either kind.

Want to make money if Israel bombs Iran? There's fund for that!

http://finance.fortune.cnn.com/2010/09/27/betting-on-the-bomb/

Fortune has learned that the New York fund manager, whose father formed Halcyon Investment Management in the early 1980s, may raise a "geopolitical volatility fund" based on an investment thesis that Israel will strike. It's called GeoVol, and draft marketing documents suggest a bifurcated structure of two long/short portfolios in commodities, equities, currencies and debt:

"Portfolio A" would aim for medium returns on between 25 and 30 positions, and would be "designed to preserve capital in case of no strike or a delayed strike, but provide significant upside when the event occurs."
"Portfolio B" would aim for high returns on between 10 and 15 positions, and is "designed to maximize returns through the use of options, derivatives and leverage with a higher degree of risk due to option decay."
There have been plenty of funds predicated on economic events, including ones that make certain geopolitical assumptions. But a fund entirely based on war? That seems new.
