Mariel gave me that idea, so if it work she deserve full credit.

would it be possible for revlefter to barter/give away item to another one without giving away his adress/identity.

if we could do it, we could create a section of DIY dedicated for this purpose.

http://sendsocial.com/ Seems to be a service which sends people packages without having the sender know the reciever's address. It might have some steep fees (I haven't delved that far into researching it), but it seems fairly legit. Also the price on the main page is in UK pounds, so I'm not sure if they do worldwide.

It might be possible to send something addressed to a post office near the reciever's residence, and for the reciever to arrange it out with the post office that they will have a parcel.... I reckon its a long shot, but hey who knows.

This is a great idea btw :thumbup1:

Like a Revleft Classifieds sort of? Great idea but I'm not sure how it would work logistically

well, via PM people would exchange the necessary informations, if its a two-way barter shipping cost would be split in two, if its one way the receiver will pay for the shipping.

Just wondering, what sort of items would be bartered, if you have any in mind. I'm thinking most things could be found within a surrounding area around someone's home, as opposed to having it shipped in.

Are we talking about things related to DIY tasks or anything, like luxury items, etc.?

rare book, crafted items, discarded item that the person dont use anymore, basicly anything that is actually legal.

yes, a lot of item can actually be found in the surrounding area, but sometimes specific item can cost money, and if a user is willing to discard an item that another user actually want, well why not?

Yeah, I hesitated to bring this idea up because it would breach security culture to an extent.

Thanks for posting the idea- maybe we can brainstorm and work things out.

hmm if its not too expensive i might take part so long as its secure. maybe we could pass around a book and sign it with out psyudonyms or something.

maybe something easy to read and tendency neutral.

I wish we had like some database machine type thing, where we enter our psuedonyms and our addresses, but only we can view our address. And like, if we want to send something to someone, we put the box in our cool database machine and type in the psuedonym and it sends the package off, without the sender knowing the recipient's address. I've been meaning to trim down on my material possessions, and have an ass load of random stuff to give away -- not particularly useful stuff, but lots of stuff nonetheless.

This idea couldn't be formalized through the forum for it openly violates security culture. On the other hand, if you and someone else decide on an exchange of say, a book, you are free to exchange addresses etc... on your own. This site cannot host addresses/names for individuals though as it would compromise the level of anonymity which is so valuable to so many members.

This sounds like a pretty cool idea. Espically for members who want to take parts in strikes and can but need a little bit of extra cash for food or hotels etc...

And, this would prevent any address's personal info being given out. But then, how reliable can a system like this be to protect our information?

(Are there any systems like this?)

I doubt it, it would be difficult to set up as well, because it would need to be connected the post office in order for the package to have a mailing address, but not let the sender know about it. Maybe if there were sticker printing machines which printed the address in ink that only shows under certain amounts of light, and right before giving it to the post office, they can stick it under a lamp. But alas, I'm just a crazy technology hopeful.
