Glenn Beck obviously is fucked and that much doesn't really need comment.

There's almost always something interesting on his show though. The kids certainly grasp the general idea that representative democracy is flawed because it is easy for lobbyists, or politicians themselves, to cause a betrayal of constitutents. They understand this to lead to actual policy implications separate from those it largely does, but still, it's interesting.

Also, may as well say it, didn't Beck and friends used to go on a lot about Obama's youth leagues?

lol Even my Libertarian teacher said that. He thinks it was horrible that Hitler and Stalin created youth programs to train kids for the army but also said how the boy scouts also do the exact same thing no matter how much they deny it.

im actually going to contradict myself.

the pioneers and komsomols were pretty much socialist boy and girl scouts. political and did work. i have no real beef with the function of youth programs its just about in what society they are in.

but then theres the occasional hitler youths were just a bunch of blood thirsty(by indoctrination) anti-semites.

anyways in that whole episode he openly states hes med with rich people and those who run and own large corporations. thats not very interesting in itself. what is interesting is that he says many of them will "lose their lives and every dime to save the republic for their children"(not exact quote but those where the key words) which if actually happened would basically be the backing of a hardcore reactionary regime. if a capitalist is actually going to give up their wealth to maintain capitalism... they are going to give it to some very fucked up people.

The problem with Hitler Youth wasn't that it was a youth group, even that it was a political youth group - the problem was that its politics was nazism. Every large society is going to have various programs for integrating youth into society. If that's a nazi society, that's a bad thing. If that's a progressive society, it's not.

It's funny because actually in the charter of the CPUSA it explicitly states that the American revolution was a relatively progressive event in history. And some Chinese socialists actually criticise the CPUSA for being revisionist partly due to that.

i always thought of the american revolution as a relatively progressive moment because it was against an empire and brought forth the bourgeoisie over the feudal aristocracy.
