Maoists seize land

KHANDBARI: UCPN-Maoist activists today seized around 23 ropanis of land located at Tumlingtar in Khandbari Municipality-13, Sankhuwasabha.
The land belongs to defense secretary of erstwhile royal regime, Madan Aryal, and Ram Prasad Chimariya who is now joint secretary.
A team led by Maoist-aligned All Nepal Farmers Association-Revolutionary declared the seizure of the land by hosting flags. The association said the party had seized the land during insurgency and now was just reclaiming it after they found that the owners were planning to sell it.
Issuing a press release, ANFA-R Chairman Chhatra Bahadur Katawal said the land was seized as per the party’s directive.
The Maoist association also said the land would be used for the welfare of poor farmers. Former defense secretary Aryal had registered the land in his name by abusing his authority while he was CDO in the district, said the party.
Dibya Baral, Khadbari city committee in-charge of the party, said his party would not release the land until it was nationalised. He also warned of retaliation if anybody tried to cultivate the land.
A team of police had reached the incident site. However, locals claimed that police did nothing.
