Ive been reading the books almost constantly since fifth grade (going on 9 years ago) the series has formed alot of my views on power, ego, and ethics.
Can anyone relate?

I've been reading them since fourth grade. I wouldn't say they've really had any influence on my views, but they've been a pretty big part of my life as far as books go.
I'm a fan.

They're not something I would enjoy nowadays but I read them a lot when I was younger. It's a good thing to read when you're a kid. If I ever have a child I'll encourage them to read it.

I loved them up until grade 6, then I became one of the popular kids and didn't have time to read. Then I finished the series during slow days, and realized they were poorly written, and hated them. I had a fanfic going until grade 4, called Harry Potter and the Cookie Files.

I think ive had more fun trying to fit together all the things that iwant to know more about (the science of magic, etc), and discerning the symbolism of everything, than just readig the book at face value.
i read them, i was even younger when i started i think, but i cant say that they have affected me really, all the tinny equality things, good vs bad "messages" i was already aware of them, i wasnt expecting HP to "inform" me.

I'm okay with the series, but J.K. Rowling just rubs me the wrong way.
The first book was decent, 2nd one kinda sucked, 3rd one was just strange (but it is one of the better movies) 4th was decent (movie sucked camel cocks) 5th was bad (movie was too) #6 is my favourite, in both movie and book, book 7 was just... convoluted. She should have brought the Deathly Hallows in earlier in the series. For some reason, I want to see movies 7 and 8.

I liked the series when I was younger, but it's a while since I read them. They were entertaining though. I'm not such a fan of the movies though. I think that if I hadn't read the books, the movies wouldn't make perfect sense.

Harry Potter got me to worship Satan, just like the conservatives warned about the books.

I certainly read and enjoyed them all back in the day, but they don't really hold any significance for me otherwise.
There isn't much else to say about HP, really. We're still waiting for those last films, but I don't think I'll go out of my way to see them, given the quality of the last three films. I'll probably end up downloading them later on. After that, what is already the case in practice will finally be official: it's over and done with, and it's a nice memory, but little more.

i dont think i watched any movie outside the first in the cinemas, only 1+2 were a bit decent, all the others were complete shit, and really someone who didnt read the books, would probably miss a lot of points.WB did a shitty job.
Allthough, the new 3d shit, makes me think of going and see the last ones, and the fact that it will be 2 parts, it means that they will include more things which might make them decent.

The first movie was good, because, like the book itself, it basically introduced the whole "universe" in a great way. I remember being like 11 or 12 and constantly going on about that film because of how they portrayed Diagon Alley, the wizards' bank, Hogwarts, etc. That was just cool. You basically saw the whole world opening up, and that was just as appealing as in the book itself.
It's also funny to look back at it, when all the main characters were also still children. Of course, life goes on, but it's kind of sad to see that film again and realise that a few years later, little Harry Potter went naked in a play about horses, and all the idiots on the internet became obsessed with the looks of the girl who plays Hermione. How old will all those actors be at the end of the last movie, anyway? 20 or so? It's wrong!
All the other movies were unimpressive, except for the third one by the Mexican guy, Cuarón. That one was a little gem. Very stylish and nice. It also introduced Michael Gambon as Dumbledore. It was kind of weird to see the old, quiet Dumbledore replaced by this guy chewing up the scenery, but it worked out well in the end.
I think what killed the series (books, not films necessarily) was that after the fourth book, every next edition was hyped as "the darkest one yet" in the media. Apparently, adults and goth teenagers don't want to be caught enjoying a "children's book"; it has to be "dark", to the extent where like 30 people and the owl were killed in the final book, often for little reason. It got a bit silly after that, although the fourth and fifth books were still great.

By the way, I only just realised that the music for those HP video games was made by Jeremy Soule, who is known for dozens of great video game soundtracks. The game itself wasn't much, but the music was definitely cool:
