View Full Version : Reliabe news sources

For a Model United Nations summer project, I have to collect news articles, 20 to be exact and write a something about them.
I would prefer not to use bourgeois new sources, any leftist/socialist news websites you all would recommend for me to use?

Mod: Could you change "reliabe" to "reliable"?

I like Libcom, they don't talk about theory much, often they have articles about strikes and union struggle, mainly libertarian socialist.
ISO (international socialist organization) is also good, there left communist
Maybe get a Chomsky article
Better yet, go to the Onion. (http://www.theonion.com/articles/gaypride-parade-sets-mainstream-acceptance-of-gays,351/)

Libcom.org and wsws.org are good, but definitely have bias. Al-Jazeera's excellent, though.

I think you're better off reading a wide range of media. However, you might want to check out Democracy Now!, Real News Network, TruthDig, Huffington Post (If that's not too 'bourgeois.') or Al-Jazeera, as I think somebody already mentioned.

Why not bourgeois media? It's not like they're somehow tainted and you can't read or use them in any way. It's actually quite good to analyse what they say. The other people on the project will probably also like it better if you use them, rather than a whole bunch of leftist diatribes.
So anyway, have a look at The Guardian, The Independent, Washington Post, New York Times, etc. For the international perspective, check out Al-Jazeera, Xinhua, Russia Today, etc.

tbh, just use Al Jazeera and stuff like that. Most leftist newspapers are shit.
If you really want though you could use the Morning Star, http://www.morningstaronline.co.uk/index.php
Its a daily national newspaper in Britain for the Communist Party, and has its logo on the BBC's board of newpaper titles, so its slightly respected i guess

I'm aggregating about 50 news sources at leftwigg.com (http://www.leftwigg.com). I listed a lot of them at MediaWeapon (http://mediaweapon.wetpaint.com/page/theidler-news-sources). Wikinews (http://en.wikinews.org/) would be an interesting one to discuss reliability. Likewise Indymedia (http://www.indymedia.org). Pretty much all the others (including all far-left ones) are organised in the traditional top-down newspaper editor way.

In addition to written articles they also produce a half-hour news program every day (download audio or video file).

Every part of this sentence is wrong.
Including the comma splice and the mixing up of "they're" and "there".

Democracy Now! is the best. It's not crazy like me and you, but its not bought and owned by the rich. Plus I think Amy Goodman is close to the ISO.
