I think they had high hopes when they were formed of amking a real political impact in France, but ultimately they've not been able to displace the more established Communist Party as the main force on the left.

The party most likely to displace the PCF as the main force on the left is none other than the left-reformist Parti du Gauche of M. Jean-Luc Melenchon, modelled unsurprisingly after Die Linke. Whether it will be as anti-coalition-governments nationally as it was under Oskar Lafontaine remains to be seen.

The PCF and Parti de Gauche were part of a left coalition at the Euro elections last year if my memory serves right. Not sure what the situation is at the moment though.

The NPA's support is going down because of the sectarian attitude it took towards the Euro elections. It should have united with the PCF and PG, since the realization of those two parties' coalitionist fantasies at the EU level were improbable.
