the problem with the shining path is that, there are many groups in peru with that name, and you dont who they are talking about

Here are the facts, for what we know, when Guzman was captured the PCP split up into different factions. The one group that remained in respect with the original movement, in which Guzman created, fled to the forests, led by Comrade Artemio, & have remained there training their people & taking care of them. They continue to this day, along with Guzman, to form a peace process with the Peruvian government, yet the government has failed to agree to these negotiations.

The second faction that was created began being led by what they call "Comrade Viktor". Viktor failed to have become a member, or was at least kicked out, because he failed to follow any of the specific policies that the party followed by, & there were talks that he was working behind the backs of the party with the drug cartels within Peru. When Guzman was captured, Viktor started a party in which continue a violent struggle against the Peruvian government, though they work with the drug cartels to help fund their movement & have been known to attacking peasant villages.

The real movement of the Sendero Luminoso are still in the forest, & have even expanded their peace process through the urban limits. This can be seen during the May Day protests within Peru:

Here's an article that I tried translating where Comrade Artemio calls out against the current leaders of the fake "Sendero Luminoso" faction: http://redantliberationarmy.wordpress.com/2010/05/20/artemio-brands-joseph-raul-as-mercenaries-narcocamaradas/

Just so I'm clear, the real faction of Sendero Luminoso is still tied to the PCP right? And the mercenary group has no relation?

Exactly. Guzman has even stated, himself, that these "shining path" members within the VRAE area are nothing more than mercenaries who are there to do the work for the highest bidder, in which are the drug cartels for now: http://laht.com/article.asp?CategoryId=14095&ArticleId=340909

Also, what the small doc from Al Jazeera fails to state is the fact that, when the Sendero Luminoso was still very large & in commandment by Guzman, the Peruvian military started funding & training a group of counterrevolutionary peasants, in which became known as the Rondas. They were trained as a counterinsurgency against the Sendero, in which they led a deadly campaign against them. So whenever the Sendero's would attack a "peasant village" that was operated by the Rondas, the Peruvian media would then claim that the Sendero's are attacking "innocent" villagers & peasants.
