I like Bad Brains' music a bit better, but DK has better politics. I voted DK because they're not homophobic and shit.

How about Black Flag or Minor Threat instead? =/

I like Bad Brains' music more, but yeah, the whole Rasta-homophobe thing is kinda shit. Voted Bad Brains still.

DK, purely for the politics. I find it hard to dig Bad Brains a lot of the time with the homophobia, but I think they've distanced themselves in recent years.

If we're talking just about punk, then the Dead Kennedys, no contest. They had one of the best punk guitar players of all time (East Bay Ray)...his surf riffs are orgasmic, especially on Plastic Surgery Disasters. Just listen to the beginnings of songs like Riot or Moon Over Marin. Their rhythm section was also above average, and Jello Biafra's voice and sarcastic political screeds were above and beyond anything else at the time, when left-wing political music was mostly boring "peace punk" (Crass et al).

But the Bad Brains also had the reggae thing going, so their musical career was a bit more diverse.

Bad Brains, easily.

BOOOOO!

Ian MacKaye is almost single-handedly responsible for creating two of the worst musical subcultures of all time: sXe and emo.

Bad Brains are fucking awesome! Yeah, they were homophobic, but you should see some of their recent interviews.

BOOOOO!

Ian MacKaye is almost single-handedly responsible for creating two of the worst musical subcultures of all time: sXe and emo.

There was nothing wrong with sXe initially, hell there wasn't even anything wrong with Youth Crew initially, until the scene transformed into elitist hardliners having gang fights, which was in no way Ian's fault.

And seriously, Emo, and especially Screamo, is one of the best genres of music ever, if you ignore the post-2000 mainstream crap a la Alesana, Taking Back Sunday, My Chemical Romance and such, which aren't really musically related to the likes of Embrace, Rights of Spring, I Hate Myself, Cap'n Jazz, Indian Summer, etc. anyway.

Though I have to give you that Ian MacKaye does come off as quite the self-righteous asshole, occasionally.

I still say Black Flag is the best of the 80s hardcore bands.

Truth.

Also, Fugazi > Minor Threat

Fuck you if you disagree.

Edit: HR in present day makes the band so much better.

Fuck you if you disagree.

Is that even questionable? Fugazi is just so much more than Minor Threat ever was :e

Bad Brains only had one good punk album, the rest was mostly all reggae, So Dead Kennedys hands down. Plus i always had a thing for Klaus Flouride:).(I'm straight by the way).

Oh and Black Flag owns all...

I chose "Bad Brains", because I believe that their music is more diverse, but I love the "Dead Kennedys" as well.

Well H.R. has alot of talent, and Bad Brain's non-regge stuff is amazing to my ears but in the end, despite Jello's awkward voice I will vote with early DK before they replaced Jello.

I like both, but on a political scale, DK outdoes BB by far. Jello's always been politically energized in his music and the Bad Brains haven't been so. Really ever since they found their Rasta side, they've been a more religious band with some punk thrown in form time to time.

That's a really difficult choice. The DK's only had a couple albums that were actually hardcore punk while most was a very original style, while Bad Brains were mostly nutty hardcore awesomeness (aside from some reggae songs). Depends what mood I'm in, really.

Are you serious!!! Dead Kennedys are ahead by that much!!

Bad Brains has a truely grimey, raw, New York punk rock sound. Theyre awesome. DK, on the other hand, reeks of bourgeois-ness. Lol, maybe not, but BB is waaay better. :thumbup1:

In music and politics the Dead Kennedy's triumph. Everytime I hear about Jerry Brown's campaign I can't help to think about California Uberalles.

I can't believe thata band who have been openly homophobic in the past have supporters on this website.

dead kennedys win this by default, fuck the biggots
