I'm currently reading Alain Badiou's 'The Communist Hypothesis' and I was wondering about how he's generally percieved around here. How does everyone feel about Alain Badiou and his work?

I read his principle thesis as published in Monthly Review on-line earlier this year, now expanded into the book you're reading. I agree with the Monthly Review article.

Badiou was the main theorist of Maoism in France in the 60s and 70s.
