I'm new (obviously) though I've been browsing the forums for a while, but I have a question that's been bugging me. What is the difference between Marxism, Trotskyism, Leninism, Stalinism and Maoism? I know the basics but I'd like to know more.

Marxists believe in Karl Marx's ideology and want international self-liberation by the workers.

Leninists follow VI Lenin's ideology and want liberation by the workers through the use of a vanguard party that leads the communist movement.

Stalinists are Leninists who think that Josef Stalin was a great statesman () and that his policies like Socialism in One Country were good ideas.

Trotskyists are Leninists who follow the ideology of Russian exile Leon Trotsky and believe that Josef Stalin destroyed socialism in the USSR and, like Marx and Lenin, believe that Socialism in One Country is impossible

Maoists are Leninists who follow the ideology of Mao Zedong. Mao's main idea that differentiates him from Stalin was the idea of having a violent communist revolution led by peasants instead of workers
