PPW info blog - anyone interested in helping ?

This is an idea for a 'blog' of sorts that I think would be very useful and worth making. Basically it would contain no original content, but just forward and link to news stories as they come, about the various PPWs going on in the world, and related happenings. It would be like the continuous news threads that exist on here about Nepal, India, Philipines, but all put together and covering some other conflicts too, with more contributors hopefully. In other words, the idea is to create a site for people to find information as it comes in, relating to all these conflicts. Every battle and injury and death and statement and so on. It would not be for commentary or anything, just carrying news reports. Perhaps we could have a seperate little bit for background info but that would not be the main point.

I am hoping for it to have info mostly on India, Philippines, Nepal, Bangladesh, Turkey, Peru, Bhutan, aswell as Colombia and relatively inactive armed commie groups in other countries. Perhaps also urban guerilla actions in Greece. Maybe some other stuff. The point is a wide variety of struggles.

I can't do this alone however, and would really like some comrades to help out. By trawling the net for news on the conflicts and putting it up on the blog. (I found the Bangladesh thing by searching 'maoists' on google news). It would be really great to have one spot where everyone could look for info, dont you think ?

Well I dont know exactly how it would be done yet. Was thinking of allocating everyone involved a certain area or conflict to focus on, so we would end up with some detailed searching for all of them.. so it wouldnt be like you searching vaguely for any news of maoist-related actions anywhere in the world, would be more like just looking for info on the Turkish Maoists. (for example). So it wouldnt be too labour-and-time intensive, just a few minutes searching for news every day. (for the smaller conflicts that is. obviously the naxalite news is abundant and would take more time to work through, so that will go to someone more willing to spend time on it)

Wow that's pretty great of you. I think wait and see how well it does at first before we get a domain name, but that would definitely be great.
A place with Wordpress installed would be good :) Actually I'm still not sure what kind of blog to use. Something that allows multiple people to make entries and a degree of customisation is all that's needed I guess. Wordpress seems to be the most used so perhaps its the best..

This idea is still in the baby stage obviously. Literally the only plans I've made are the ones posted here. So anyone with any ideas, even if you don't want to help with the info-gathering, please post what you think.

A suggestion. Maybe in the side bar or something you could link to documentaries that deal with Maoist movements. I.E. Blazing Trail, Eight Years Of Glorious Peoples War, People Of The Shining Path, etc.

Yeah, I'd definitely try & help out. Also, is there anyway, if we use wordpress, to make each post made first approved of? Just in case one of us accidentally makes duplicates of another's. Wouldn't know since I only operate my own wordpress lol.

It's easier than it looks bro. All you need is google - most of the news I get from Nepal I find by searching google news for 'Maoist Nepal'. You can sort it into chronological items and get all the news-site articles recently published on the internet.

By doing this regularly you can find the websites that can be relied upon to provide frequent news articles about your subject, and you can check those as a matter of habit. Not all articles published on a subject find their way into google news, so it pays to hunt around for the ones that get missed out.

Here's a list of conflicts I think we should try and provide info on-

Major PPWs-
India
Nepal* (not in the war stage anymore but obviously linked to this so is worth covering)
Philippines
Colombia

Smaller insurgencies-
Peru
Turkey
Bangladesh
Greece (?)

Plus armed revolutionary groups not currently engaged in war, like the maoists in Bhutan and Afghanistan, the PFLP, Tamil MLs, and so on.

Please pick one or more that you would be willing to get the news on. :D Philippines is taken. All helped is valuble, though coverage of the major PPWs is most needed; i'm happy to look around for info on all the leftovers (its fun researching these little-known groups and conflicts hehe)

I'm not a big fan of the name, to be honest. We don't make a virture out of a necessity, and the title seems to me to imply that you glorify and celebrate violence rather than just accepting it as an unfortunate but unavoidable necessity.

Beyond that though, I'm interested to see how this turns out.
