Communism is the antithesis of nationalism, it is an internationalist movement that does not accept nation or race to be a dividing line but class. Many so called communist parties have taken a nationalist view to building socialism, in Britain for example under the direction of Stalin, Harry Pollitt drafted 'the British road to Socialism'. The stalinist regimes claimed they were building socialism in Russia and later in other countries, you can see today that the militarist gangsters of North Korea claim to be building socialism, when in fact they are building an authoritarian state built on the mass exploitation of the masses. You cannot build socialism in this or that country, communists are for an international revolution which is what Lenin and the Bolsheviks staked their revolution on. National isolation leads to inevitable to defeat.

There are plenty of reasons why people hate communism, it largely comes down to the disgusting and vile regimes of the former eastern bloc (which were never socialist) and the smashing of the most combative sections of the working class in the West and as always good old propaganda.

No, most communists do not believe that a future society based on post-scarcity economics (i.e. a "gift economy" but with the technology to make it sustainable) will require any sort of money or wage.

It gets more complicated, but basically your understanding of "the basics" is already flawed.

but does communism involve racism or nationalism
Uh... no. Where did you get that idea?

Communism calls for the alliance of all working peoples of the world.

Some communists do support anti-imperialist movements which may have nationalist elements, but that's beside the point.

It really depends whom you ask. In N. America, I think it's mainly Cold-War propaganda and lies about what socialism/communism is. In other places, it's the mis-identification of "Communist" governments that took on free-market reform and made things go to the shitter with 'actual' Communism.

Well, the Communist struggle does involve racism and nationalism in the sense that Communists oppose and seek to eliminate these reactionary currents. Racism and nationalism are divisive, oppressive, and in no way conducive to revolution and the establishment of an egalitarian society. The goal of a classless, stateless society is simply incompatible with any racism or nationalism.

Eliminating racism is part of the larger Communist program.
