What the title says; how do you think it can be done, concretely and directly? It's something that the country (and neighbouring India, with other countries with similar attitudes as the mainstream) has had for a millennia, surely, and the religious dogma does not help either. To add, neighbouring India, with other countries too, has similar attitudes in the mainstream. I was thinking about this, and then thinking about people in the past have challenged long-held, bigoted beliefs. For example, the early women's rights movement started to wear make-up (it was only prostitutes that used to wear make-up) and dress like men. I know the UCPN(M) have championed LGBT rights on occasion, what with the first gay rights march ever being held in Kathmandu, but has leftist movement there on a whole done anything else? Obviously something as a big as this needs a mass, people-backed movement - what does anyone think on the subject?

A Cultural Revolution would be the best way to fix these things. It worked wonders for China, and could be just as effective in Nepal and India.

If you've got time I strongly recommend this paper by the MLMRSG on the Cultural Revolution. http://www.mlmrsg.com/attachments/049_049_CRpaper-Final.pdf Most western accounts just approach it as a 'power-struggle' or 'purge' kinda thing; in fact it was much more radical than that and went to the heart of Chinese culture. This included rejection of backwards traditions and institutions. No doubt a CR would be the best weapon for destroying caste oppression

You are right. In Asia, we have to face many social factors that is unimaginable in Europe and First world countries. Actually, we have to do things here in Asia, which had been done by bourgeoisie class in Europe.
