Ok so i watch the show almost daily and this follows an episode where he was just playing a whiney asshole. The diffeence is now hes starting to act a bit illusiony(new word) and i had the image of a barking pig in my mind while watching him speak. i figured this would be enough to watch to get the idea.
Why this is in politics rather than chit chat? Well, this is one of those huge "tipping point" episodes. apparently we in the US now have an orwellian big brother institution with the passing of that new financial bill. Also, according to Beck, phase on of the "revolutionaries" plan is somewhere in the works.
This guy's reaction is like right-wing agitprop. hes seriously whipping up emotions with the way he is speaking. and to think, a man tried to shoot up the ACLU (http://sfist.com/2010/07/21/crazed_right-wing_shooter_targeted.php) in San Francisco over the weekend. What this man barks about really does end up on the streets. at an anti-mehserle rally in the bay area, the protesters were chanting "not about race" which comes straight from beck. there seems to be a strategic shift coming in the way this tea party movement is going to work. so, i was wondering if there were any thoughts on this development and if anyone has any idea on what the fascistic tea baggers might have in the works.
i welcome any first hand experience with the teabaggers.

-Abolishing the department of education, DoJ, EPA, are actually moving into the mainstream(lol) tea party movement, and these are more or less talking points of Beck. I went to a rally two days ago and the CANDIDATE for CONGRESS said she wanted to eliminate the department of education when she got in. Just sayin-- deficit on the brain with some of these right-wingers. Don't touch the calf that is the military budget though.
Also, another note. Limbaugh started using "ministry of truth" today to refer to the mainstream media. Do all these right-wing nuts get together and pick the next stupid fad to smear and use in their speech-- race, orwell, unions ?
-
Seriously though. The Department of Education. It's gotta go. Don't tread on me.
WHY ARE NOT YOU NOT IN THE STREETS! Now a word from our sponsors :P

Actually yes, they do. And it's why they're so successful at getting their message across.
Here's an article about how it works: http://gawker.com/5461548/how-your-right+wing-talking-point-sausage-is-made

I'm waiting for Beck to write his definitive manifesto to rouse the Right into some lunatic act of hatred towards everything that scares them(homosexuals, illigals, people who aren't white, and 'them dirty, Liberal Commies').
Maybe he will write it in prison after trying to be an artist for a while?.....

Based upon the polls and based upon the reactions of talk show people like Beck and Limbaugh, I think they are starting to realize that people are no longer taking them serious and that people are, in reality, liking the changes that are occurring and about to occur. Ugh... It pisses me off when people like Beck mix in religion and politics together for the purpose of illuminating fear because of the dangers of tyrannical theocracy arising.
So with that said, they are losing the struggle because people are wanting change and to them, the right, change is fear worthy because change means that they will be stripped of the power that they used to abuse, murder and discriminate against those who are below them.

Thats coming on 8/28 at the lincoln memorial.
As for what you said penguin, i kind of have to disagree. the rise of patriot groups, and the near constant hype over tea party candidates in november is really worrisome. i read an article about how even some liberals are moving over to side with meg whitman(spent $91million of her own money already on her campaign)

I'm beginning to agree with some of the liberal intelligentsia when they note that the U.S. currently looks like Weimar Germany.

I hope penguin is right, but I have serious doubts about people losing interest in these psychos.

I don't know where you live, that this is true, but I wish I saw this around me. Instead it seems that anti-obama sentiment is growing and that even more radical right ideas are spreading (such as the abolishment of the dept. of education).
This authoritarian and extremely anti-working class brand of conservatism, wrapped in libertarian clothes, is pretty unsettling to me, because it has the potential to gain power/popularity and in all likelihood would play the social role of fascism.

On the other hand, the whole concept to his (shitty) book the overton window is interesting.
Seems as if this is what they've been doing the whole time :P
Unthinkable-->Radical-->Acceptable-->Sensible-->Popular-->Policy
Now, if us pinko commie bastards could figure out how to use this effectively...

Isn't he based loosely on Beck and Limbaugh in the movie?

I live in the state that elected Joe McCarthy... after him, my state has become centrist-to-liberal because of how much shame he brought to us. If you don't know who he is, he is the one that triggered the red scare of the 1950s that resulted in a lot of ruined lives and in a lot of reasonless rhetoric that is still used today. Overall, most of the college educated people are liberal while about half of the military is liberal and the other conservative, and the workers who did not go to college are generally liberal, but they are a shrinking group.

He may be: it would make sense.
Considering how abstract that film is I was amazed at how much it made me connect with society we live in...

Yes, it is because of capitalism Beck. It's not religion.
Take note NGN. A rich man using religion as a way to explain material and social conditions.

V for Vendetta was a really good scathing no holds barred critique of society.
The movie though was a liberal wet dream.

Whether he is based on Beck or not, the sad part is that every Conservative Libertarian I know beieves that entire movie is about Conservatism(V ) vs Socialism(the corrupt state). They don't seem to see the blatant support of LGBT the film makers portrayed or the rabid Conservative brainwashing the supposed 'Socialist State' too part in.
Sorry if that was offtopic.

Godamn I hate the right's logic! Lol. It's so twisted and weird. How could they view V for Vendetta as a right wing film? In the least it was blatantly liberal. The source material advocated a scathing critique of Thatcherism! It's the same bullshit thinking that has right wingers believe The Colbert Report is serious and right wing! They totally miss the satire. I really think though that young right libertarians delude themselves into thinking that the anti establishment stuff they watch, read or hear favors libertarianism in order to not accept the fact that they're very much proponents of the status quo.
Nolan

Libertarianism is built on support for the status quo in the guise of opposition to it. In that aspect it's very similar to fascism.

I doubt that. V For Vendetta was published in the early 80's, in the UK; Limbaugh didn't start becoming really successful till the late 80's/early 90's.

More like a classic insurrectionary anarchist's wet dream...the whole movie is just a portrayal of one man and his acts of violence bringing about a social rupture.

Well, the character was taken from the comic. Unless his mannerisms were somehow inspired by Rush Limbaugh, which I also doubt, as someone who has occassionally listened to him on long drives; Prothero's style is much closer to Beck, in the film. Most of Limbaugh's rhetoric is dedicated to defaming the Democratic Party, it seems...there isn't too much about "national greatness".
But I suppose it's possible that the director/writer may have had Limbaugh in mind when building the character.

The comic was originally about Thatcher, but I think I remember hearing something about the film makers having G.W. Bush and the Right-wing media in mind while writing/making the movie.

Didn't Alan Moore identify as an anarchist? I vaguely remember reading something along those lines...
