i know that there two individual threads that make up this one, but i'm interested in correlations amongst one group of people rather than possibly two. EDIT: if you used to use marijuana/tobbacco but quit, mark what you used to use.

Brain-functionist reactionary
i know, but i'm willing to be a little hypocritical in order to satisfy my hatred of fascists. ever watch "inglourious basterds"? i was the only one to stand up and cheer during the gruesome parts. :)
EDIT: and i'm willing to admit that i.q. scores mean next to nothing, but i'm just trying to point out correlations.

ca 131 IQ here (got the score from a supervised test by a psychologist, so I assume it's accurate).

accurate is relative lol. your i.q. can up or down within a range of ten points or so from one day to the next so that could be the very bottom of your range or the top, accuracy is relative either way.

I scored a 115 on an online, but accurate, IQ test when drunk out of my mind so I am confident 131 is about my medium level. I probably could have had more coffee that day. I was flatered and a bit suprised in any case.

when i get back home from my trip up north in a few weeks i expect that more people will have voted on this. (somebody try and keep it alive please) and when i get back i'll turn the data collected into a series of pie charts and bar graphs and venn-diagrams to make it easier to comprehend.

That's a little elitist and myopic.
A comrade is a comrade, no matter what their IQ is. No one is more worthy in life because of their intelligence. That sort of thinking probably contributed to the formation of classes in the first place.

Why's IQ on everyone's fingertips of all a sudden on this forum? I'll just say my IQ is higher than 130, but lower than 170, done by my therapist not too long ago (yes I have a therapist, unsurprisingly ha!) to be completely vague (and so I don't get accused of lying :D)

Why is there no "140+ and I use both" option?

Good to see someone's as grumpy about this as I am.

Dude, everybody I know with an IQ over 130 either has a shrink or needs one, myself included. Also, it only takes one spark to start a prairie fire.

140+ and occasionally use marijuana. And yeah, what praxis said about the shrinkage. I got sent to my first one because my school wanted to figure out why I hated being there. Turns out I hate two-faced assholes. Surprise!

First shrink I ever saw I went to voluntarily when I was like 21 or 22. I thought I had a drinking problem. According to him, my problem wasn't drinking so much as it was anger management and the drinking was just a way to not feel. Imagine that shit, a hard line leftist living in the Deep South. I wonder what in the world could have possibly pissed me off so much.

I sometimes wonder whether or not more people labeled insane aren't really just misunderstood geniuses. True innovation, in my mind, requires some very atypical thought processes. Those thought processes aren't easily understood by "average" minds, so people call them crazy.
Had Einstein never made it to Princeton, I wonder if he mightn't have been chucked into a puzzle factory at some point. I mean, here's a guy who used to walk home from work every day so immersed in thought that he'd occasionally get lost. It wasn't out of the ordinary for him to have to find a public phone someplace so he could call his wife and get directions home. That was OK for him; everybody just sort of accepted the fact that he was a genius and that geniuses are a little off.
Now, I'd never claim to be as smart as Einstein. However, I think I understand how that kind of thing can happen. After all, I've had more than one person walk into a room I was sitting in where I was just sitting staring blankly into space, no TV or radio on, no book or other reading material in hand. Usually, the ensuing conversation went something like this. "What the fuck are you doing?" "Thinking." "Thinking? What do you mean you're thinking?" "I mean I'm thinking, goddammit. What's not to understand about that? Now go away, you're interrupting." "You're fucking crazy."

The whole idea of labelling people 'sane' and 'insane or 'mentally ill' and 'mentally healthy' is bullshit. I'd love to see someone who is considered to be mentally healthy all-round or 100% sane. Actually maybe not, they'd probably be a disgusting robot.
There is no line between genius and insanity. Rather, genius is a severe and positive form of insanity, and insanity exists in every person.

Ah, so you too feel the choking sensation of the Deep South Syndrome? I feel for ya, man. It's not something that can easily be explained to someone who hasn't lived through it. Just mentioning you aren't a right-wing nut-job instantly gets you yelled at, which could exist in other places, but it seems to be quite consistent down here.

Brilliance is the benefit of insanity imo. All the most brillant people I know are quite mad by "normal" person standards. I think the process of contently thinking can make people more "out there" but at the same time makes them a step above average in terms of intelligence.

I sympathize. I think constantly and when I let it get the better of me around others, most people think I am nuts. Apparently, stoping in the middle of a conversation or activity to think and then returning with some quick mutterings about what you were thinking strike most as 'odd'.

You know what the funny bit is? I sometimes wonder if I ever would have been radicalized if I hadn't been raised in the South. Both my parents were really liberal as they were both raised in the North (mother from Massachusetts, father from Ohio) so I was raised in that kind of household. However, I sometimes wonder if in fact the reactionary right wing tendencies of the Southern town I grew up in didn't have the effect of pushing me straight into the arms of anti-capitalism.
To quote Matthew Lillard's Stevo in SLC Punk!, "I rest my case on this: In a country of lost souls rebellion comes hard. But in a religiously oppressive city, where half it's population isn't even of that religion, it comes like fire." I can sympathize with that sentiment because I was raised in a religion called Sant Mat which has the same sort of correlation to the Eastern mystical religions that Unitarian-universalism has to Christianity. Try that on for size in an area dominated by Baptists with a fair mix of Mormons and Pentecostals. I'm an agnostic these days so I don't practice the religion any more, but the effects of growing up in that sort of situation (combined with a deep hatred of racism and a very pro-union household in an area with little to no union presence) remain.
Anyway, that's the long way of saying I often wonder if I had grown up on the West Coast (where I live now) if I wouldn't have just stayed a liberal since that and my parents' religion are so readily accepted out here.
I sympathize. I think constantly and when I let it get the better of me around others, most people think I am nuts. Apparently, stoping in the middle of a conversation or activity to think and then returning with some quick mutterings about what you were thinking strike most as 'odd'.
Hahaha I've done the same thing myself. I'm constantly getting questioned by the girlfriend for doing exactly what you're talking about.
