As bad as the supreme court is I don't think they would let this slide unless the school board had some crazy good argument. Can't believe they were arrested for protesting against this shit.

I think a case on this would be any ACLU lawyer's dream case.

Interesting how its segregation because of the neighborhoods. So if people would desegregate residentially the schools would stay desegregated. I heard of a study that showed how even if only a small number of people are racist it can lead to segregation. The racist few panic and leave, this lowers property values, so the rest leave too. Some might also leave because they are afraid of the crime rate going up especially if the news media is harping on those fears.
The reason is while many white people don't care if they live next to minorities, a few prefer white people, and there's hardly any who would prefer living next to minorities over white people.
We should try a strategy of countersegregation. If enough people purposefully move into neighborhoods of different races then the number of whites preferring a mixed race neighborhood would weigh against the preferences of the ones who want an all-white neighborhood and over time whites who don't care will be reassured by the number of people who will want to stay even more because of minorities moving in so they won't be as worried about property values.

No.
Gentrification is not a solution to white flight. Moving into Black or Brown or Yellow or Red neighborhoods will not end racism, but further displace folks of color and make the neighborhood "desirable" for white people to live in again, increasing property values and police presence in the process.
Using your privilege of white mobility to live where ever you please at the expense of non-white people is not any way to increase diversity or end racism, because it does nothing to challenge the homogeneity of whiteness.

This is a major problem in the US to begin with and we certainly don't need this to be promoted by the left.

I love how you immediately assume that most people move into poorer neighborhoods (as most historically forced-segregated neighborhoods tend to be) by choice, or just to "exercise white privilege". truth is, there are alot of poor people in this country, and they go where it's cheap. hence, why crown heights has a large amount of Russian Jews living next to a large population of Jamaicans. They're not there because they decided one day they wanted to troll Jamaican Americans out of existence; they're there because it is one of the few neighborhoods left that is affordable and familiar to Eastern European Jews.
I spent my high school years in a city in the Bay area that was only 15% white, and I'm white as a snowflake, lol. I wasn't there by choice, I was there because I was poor; no blacks or mexicans or asians wanted to be there either, but we were all there because it was poor. I can promise you there was no conspiracy to raise property values to displace more people of color

Is there a way to do this without causing gentrification?
I got an idea. If regardless of your income you limit your spending on a new house or on rent to what the average income of the neighborhood can affoard or less then property values wouldn't rise.
As for police presence, that happens because the new rich neighbors are scared and want to protect their property. If the countersegregators are revolutionaries they will not vote for or in any other way encourage local politicians who desire to increase the police presence. Maybe countersegregation could even be coupled with an active local campaign to reduce police presence.
And if somehow this plan won't work maybe this might be something for low-income people to do alone without the "help" of middle-income or high-income people, since low-income white people moving into a minority neighborhood wouldn't raise property values.

There is a huge difference in immigrants from Eastern Europe moving into the ghetto for economic reasons or a poor white kids who were born and raised in the inner city and the countless white people who are moving back to the city from the suburbs to open up art galleries, renovate historic buildings, or in RevLeft's case gain prole or anti-racist points organizing people of color in the big bad inner city.

Low income white people moving en masse into a non-white neighborhood, would still contribute to increased property values. When a sizable number of white people move in -- regardless of income level or political consciousness -- it only opens the flood gate for more affluent white people to move in.
Perfect examples of this are the Pilsen neighborhood of Chicago or the Bushwick neighborhood of Brooklyn. In both neighborhoods you have a poor, politically conscious white people moving into a non-white neighborhood ((Pilsen: Latina/o)/(Bushwick: Black)) since the 90s. And in both places you see a subsequent increase in rich, apolitical white people (and property values).
White people cannot end segregation by simply moving into nonwhite neighborhoods, because such actions still rely on the power of white skin privilege. To truly desegregate, the ability to move where you want must be universal. People of color must be able to move where they want.

I heard of a study that showed how even if only a small number of people are racist it can lead to segregation.A couple of years ago a model made the round in mainstream news that "proves" that even a slight preference for your own ethnic group leads to strong segregation. It works like this: Pieces of two colours are placed on a square grid. You specify how strong their racism is, that is whether they move around unless some number of squares in close proximity (that is the 8 adjacent squares, but you could also set this to include the squares adjacent to them) is filled with pieces of the same colour. Whatever the placement at the beginning of the situation is, the level of racism you set mostly influences the speed of the process, hardly the end result: almost complete segregation. While playing with several online applets that implemented that model, I noticed that none of them had a slider for liking diversity. I am sure that having strongly racist pieces who also want just 1 adjacent token friend would result in a much more diverse neighbourhood than with any of the settings permitted by the model.

I was also thinking people of color could move into white neighborhoods if the housing values are affoardable. There are low-income white neighborhoods.
If somehow the integrators(of both races) could take a strong anti-rich attitude and express it well enough it could still scare away the wealthier whites, and in the process replace de facto racial segregation with de facto socioeconomic segregation. Maybe that would help people realize their common interests are with members of their own class rather than their own race.

To be honest I don't know too many middle-class families (of any color) who voluntarily move into poor neighborhoods hoping to revitalize the area. I don't blame them. It's usually wealthy politicians who can't seem to figure out (or care) about the impact higher property taxes have on the poor creating grand projects, or as counter pointed out, poor whites who make the area appear to white investors as less hazardous.
That said I'm not discouraging white people from moving into a predominantly minority community.

That's absurd.
The strategy should be trying to not let this get by and having black people and chinese people and white people and indian people and everybody stand up against segregation of any sort and make it known that they will not stand for it. There doesn't need to be any weird scheme about white people moving into non-white areas.
