Anyone still listening to those?
Many people told me that the sound quality is superior, if you have the right gear.
The problem I see with it is that the old second hand records are still damn expensive (and I guess getting more expensive?)
Also, by doing a little search on turntables, seems like quality is astronomically pricey.
Dammit ! Do we get vinyls in communism?

I only really buy music on vinyl. A lot of older records are not that expensive if you look hard enough, and can go up in value if its a rare pressing. For instance, I have a couple of first pressing Radiohead 7"s that are worth quite a bit now. Not that its really about that, but I find the quality to be much more impressive.
The thing with turntables is the same as cheap stereos. You buy a cheap CD stereo, it goes bust in a couple of years. I've had my turntable since I was 15, only ever had to have needles replaced (which you will hae to every so often).

i'm a big fan of vinyl. at a thrift store near my house you can get records for $1.25 and they usually have some good stuff, so i've been buying a lot of those lately. also shell out for some rarer/better stuff every now and then. definitely my preferred way to listen to music; i don't even own cd's anymore. i also like cassette tapes, though they wear out a lot quicker than records.

This. I have a hell of a lot of Dusty Springfield sevens that I picked up for less than £2 each.

I don't get the obsession with "authenticity," in this case the "real way" to listen to music (unlike "fake" mp3s, for example). I've listened to some albums on vinyl, and they sound fine, not much better or worse than on CD or any other medium.
It just seems like a "retro cool" factor to me.
Then again, I suppose there are some albums that you can only get on vinyl

Well, I guess you're right to some point. But I wouldn't confuse passion for vinyl with some consumerist or "cool" factor.
I believe it originates mostly among us older generation who used to listen to music on a hard medium, tapes and later on CDs.
MP3s are great, especially since we "get" them free.
But growing up by listening to a single tape over n over again late in the night.. MP3s simply cannot provide that same feeling no more.
I open up my folder called "torrent mp3" and while I browse the endless list of albums I just don't "feel" it.
Hmm, yeah... that might sound stupid, I agree
But the quality of the vinyl sound is simply amazing. There is no way to describe it, but to try and listen it for yourself.
The sound is more deeper, fatter... I dunno how to describe it exactly, but if you like some certain songs you've been listening on a CD or MP3 for ages and then give the old vinyl a spin.. wow, it simply blew me away :thumbup1:

lucky you !
We have like only 2-3 old vinyl stores in my town and prices are outrages !
Sure, you can buy stuff like "world disco hits 1972" for a few bucks, but stuff I dig like The Stones, Beatles, Dire Straits or Zeppelin usually goes for about 20$ !!!
And we're talking old and second hand vinyls :(
I guess the bloody demand is all time low and they sell these only to antique collectors.
Ordering from the internet is also not an option since Croatia is still not an EU member and prices you pay for customs when ordering from other countries are way too big.

I can't listen to CD's or cassettes. Vinyl is the perfect listening format.

i don't have any way to play mp3s nor do i have hundreds of dollars to shell out to acquire the means to. cd's are pretty expensive compared to vinyl and cassette. so... i opt for vinyl. has nothing to do with "authenticity" (why in quotes? you're the first one to use it...), its just the most convenient way for me to find music. i also enjoy the act of going through the records, removing it from its sleeve and putting it on the turntable.

Whenever I do buy music, it's only vinyl. Much warmer, live sound compared to the flat sound of CD's.

If we're just talking about listening to music, then you're using a computer with internet access, and I assume you have decent headphones.
But if I remember correctly, you do some DJing right? Vinyl then? Makes more sense cost-wise for your case it seems.

Around here vinyl costs just as much if not more than CDs

- I know I was the first to use it, but I use quotes to refer to so-called authenticity. Some people I know claim that vinyl is the most authentic way to listen to music, all other forms are pure shit and all that "Back in the day they did things right!" stuff.
- Fair enough if it's the best way for you. I personally haven't found that to be the case in my experience though.

even playing youtube is usually a bit of a stretch for this computer. hell it can't even handle firefox sometimes. so, i'm pretty much limited to non-computer music.

actually i did use a computer for that. :blushing:

you're going to the wrong places;)
