Hey comrades, now I know the Australian Protectionist Party has been having demonstrations here and there, but so far a bunch of old men in cardigans have not been very sufficient to really worry about (despite counterdemos being arranged by the DSP and SAlt). Nationalist Alternative turned up in Perth once and I believe they had a march over east once.
Now I'm not the most knowledgeable when it comes to Australian politics and I've only been really active for a few months yet but I'm starting to wonder if the ADL could begin to emerge as a potent force any time soon: http://australiandefenceleague.org
I also thought this might be of interest to anti-fascists here: http://4freedoms.ning.com/xn/detail/3766518:Event:24449?xg_source=activity
The ADL look like Facebook fascists right now to me, but I just want to get people's thoughts out on the grouplets that have been emerging across the country.

All the "defence leagues" are racist and islamophobic, but not fascist or nazi.

I use the term 'Facebook fascists' for mere alliteration, but they could be considered proto-fascist. And every anti-fascist worth his/her own weight in sawdust should be actively opposed to the EDL and counterpart groups internationally.

I agree, and I do sometimes actually refer to them as fascists, but I don't think I should because it gives the wrong message to the people, who see them burning swastikas, having gay or black members and say 'oh they arent fascist, they musnt be racist' whereas if we say from the start they are islamophobic and bigoted then we are being more accurate.

If you were trying to accurately describe the actual organizations themselves, then yes. :)

Something needs to be done about the EDL now, they've grown in significant numbers in UK Mainland, besides Wales.
They use black people as shields to help prove the fact they're not racists, didn't stop them from attacking a Hindu temple though.
We've learnt pacifism doesn't work, we can't teach maggots to talk.

Wow man, I didn't realise that these sorts of groups were so organised. I thought it'd just be some racists who just hated on all, but didn't actually form 'clubs' and leagues.
Since you're a Perth boy, is there anything similar in Perth? Or more of an Eastern States thing?
This is so confronting man, I can see them expanding due to the whole 'boat people' thing. It's so messed up, even one of my friends is like nah man send 'em back. (he's just following his parents' conservative views)
Some people gotta learn for themselves...

^Combat 18 members are known to be in Perth and I did once see a guy wearing an EDL jumper in the city. Members of Nationalist Alternative tried to hijack an internet censorship protest I was at once: http://perth.indymedia.org/index.php?action=newswire&parentview=150956
I don't think the far-right is large and/or organized in Perth.

I've heard from people who have seen Nazis in Northbridge (part of Perth), apparently they were C18. They've been reported in the news as well - C18 members got drunk and shot up a mosque over here in February: http://www.theaustralian.com.au/news/nation/fines-reparation-ordered-for-mans-role-in-race-hate-group-mosque-shooting/story-e6frg6nf-1225908916806
