During my whole life i allways loved reading comics, and giving some attempts to make my own. I tought we could have a general discussion about comics here, you can also post your own creations if you want.
In my opinion there are 3 very distinctive groups one is the french-belgian with Tintin, Spirou, the smurfs, Lucky Luke and Asterix often focused on adventures and in first place intended for children and young teenagers.

Second we have the American tradition thats actually very broad all frome short humoristic strips like Garfield, to the great super heroes like super man and spiderman.

The third one is the one that im not so familiar with, the east asian known as manga. Sorry for writting so short about it but i dont know so much, im hoping that someone else can fill in. :)

We also have some sub-genre like political satire often one-picture with sarcastic comments and a symbolic lenguage when it comes to the drawing. There is also social-realistic comics and more "traditional" political comics like V for vendetta and i hope no one have missed the revolutionary version of Tintin "Breaking free"

The Japanese is by far the oldest, dating back to the 17th century. There are two books in English that describe modern manga, Manga, Manga! (1983) and Dreamland Japan 1996,) both by Fredrik L. Schodt.
