Hey all,
yesterday i participated in a solidarity action with the people struggling in greece against the austerity measures, as well as a first step in the build up against similar measures here. Seeing as the group which took the initiative on this consisted out of only four people when it was founded in may, combined with the fact that in the summer holidays it is apparently harder to mobilise people, the number of 150 people wasnt bad at all. Especially since this was regarded by the organising group as nothing more than a stepping stone, on which to build further resistance. Even more encouraging was that for the first time in years the anarchists and IST (and similar) were in the same demo, as well as a few people from radical parts of the union.
The organising group (Greece is Everywhere/Griekenland is Overal) has stated that it wants to make this an ongoing campaign. After the demonstration around 35 people gathered in a room made available by the turkish democratic workers federation, and decided among other things to continue participation in the broader network 'Send the bill back'. They are planning a demonstration on the 23rd of Octobre, after the international trade unions' protest in Brussels on the 29th. Further discussion on future actions to be taken will be held in a following meeting, at the end of this month.
