I'll kick it off with New Order's Love Vigilantes:

Stylistically, the string quartet version is captivating, but has no lyrics. The sorrowful trills of the strings and the bittersweet crescendo that rushes at its end toward its final notes, like a dramatic chase toward destiny, still do invoke the triumphant march onward to a better world:

I hope that enough members comment with their own contributions for me to generate a playlist of my own and maybe discover some new music along the way.

Feel I'm Fixin' to Die by County Joe and the Fish has always been my favorite since i watched first watched Woodstock. It might sound like hes praising war for the first verse but a caveman could guess that its sarcasm.

There was also an old hippie composer that my eighth grade music teacher showed me once that performed an excellent instrumental. Each musician using their instrument in a way it was not meant to be used. I wish i could remember his name so I could listen to him right now. I'll edit it in later if I can remember; it really is a work of art.
