I have been browsing this forum for a while now and you have become an invaluable resource for me, so thank you!
I am originally from Montana but I recently relocated to San Diego. After living in rural towns my whole life I am enjoying the city life and looking for ways to get active and involved in the community here.
I am 24 and was raised in a very liberal household but only recently began to identify myself as an anarchist. I am thankful to have parents who have always encouraged me to learn, ask questions, and challenge authority. However, they think anarchy is too utopian and that I am just young and overly idealistic. But after exploring and trying on many different political philosophies (I thought I was an objectivist after reading Ayn Rand) I know that total liberation for all people is the only movement that I can support. If I had to chose I would say that I am an anarcho-socialist, but I prefer to be an "anarchist without adjectives"
At this point I'm still just trying to educate and free myself from the capitalist and consumerist habits that have controlled me for so long. It is more difficult than I imagined to reject all of the things in society I am ethically opposed to, but I am trying and I find myself feeling more free every day.
I would really like to get involved with the activist and anarchist community in San Diego but so far I haven't had any luck. I tried to meet up with the Food Not Bombs group but I was unable to find or contact them. The only similar group I know of here is the Che Cafe at UCSD but that is in a really out of the way location and I prefer not to drive. If anyone has other ideas for groups I can connect with in this area I would greatly appreciate it!
