Has anyone else seen the Woody Allen film "Bananas"? What did you think of it? I liked it.

Here is a Brief plot from wiki

Fielding Mellish is a neurotic blue collar man who tries to impress social activist (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_activism) Nancy. Trying to get in touch with the San Marcos revolution, he visits attempting to show his concern for the native people. However, nearly killed by the local caudillo (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caudillo), only to be saved by the revolutionaries (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Revolutionary), he is then indebted to help them. Mellish clumsily learns how to be a revolutionary, and then in an effort to feed the troops goes to a restaurant and in typical New Yorker fashion asks for thousands of deli sandwiches (including one special order), plus wheelbarrows of coleslaw on the side. When the revolution is successful, the Castro-style leader goes mad (declaring at one point that all underwear be worn on the outside), forcing the rebels to place Mellish as their President. When traveling back to the U.S. to obtain financial aid, he reunites with his activist ex-girlfriend and is exposed.

Love all the Woodman's movies. My favorite living director and writer.
His early films are generally a lot crazier than the ones from later on. My favorite scene from "Bananas" is when he nervously begins telling that joke to the crowd... Classic.

One of Allen's funniest films. A classic spoof on the "dictator de banana"

What do people think of "Sleeper" which was something of a companion piece to Bananas? A futuristic North America is ruled by an oppressive dictator and the WA character sort of joins a Marxist guerrilla group. There's little discussion of political theory but , like most of WA's films,it seems based more on "New York angst" of the 70s.The very brief discussion of Marxism in the film got me first interested in Marx, years ago. I thought whatever this was, it must be cool.

Bananas was so funny. I think I actually liked that better than Sleeper even though lots of people think Sleeper is better. I love the training scene . anyway, Bananas is its own film and shouldn't really be compared to Sleeper except from a Woody Allen perspective.

I thought sleeper was funnier than bananas. They both do seem to fit well together.
