Two things pop into my mind:
1) An "Anti-Capitalist" label might not warrant as much police attention to the party's program as a "Communist label" (so an "Anti-Capitalist" program can afford to be more radical).
2) This could easily also be unneeded sectarianism against the official Communist Party.

This is an interesting thought. For a long time the KCSM has been regarded as an 'old man stalwart' party which raises transitional reformist demands with romanticism of the Czechoslovak state a lot of idealism around Husak etc. This new organisation could perhaps be a rejection of the tactics and positions of the KSCM in favour of a radical alternative which is less parliamentary based, and an attempt to bring in more of the strudent movement that is still marginalised and centre/right leaning (there have been sections of the student population calling for the banning of the communists, as heard on an open-panel discussion on Radio Praha on the anniversary of 1989).
I'll be in the Czech Republic from the 25th July to mid-August in Prague, Brno and Ostrava, so I can investigate this if anyone's interested.

I think you quoted the wrong point. I think your post is more on my first point than my second, but that's just me. ;)

Well, they've certainly got the same megaphone logo as the French NPA.

the "anticapitalist" is about the new form of the left, that has left behind the CCCP history.
How strong they are in CR?

They are very very small , my friends are in contact with them , they have liek 10 members max.
Trotskyist line.
This was reported back in March on 'spotters:
This is the NAL's website
http://www.antikapitalista.cz/
Their founding programme in English is pasted in below. In terms of spotting, it is made up of SOP (L5I), iRevo/RIO (RIO is the new name of iRevo), a couple of CWI, perhaps one IST member (keeping a watching brief) and then a number of members not in any other group. It has a monthly paper.

Union of young communists of Czechoslovakia (SMKČ) is the biggest youth organisation , I have friends in it and like the antirevisionist line but I donīt like they embrace Brezhnev and 68ī soviet invasion to Czechoslovakia and their total bondage to KSČM (which is reformist like was already said). There is the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia (KSČ) the second party in Czech rep. but their influnce is less than minor. Also a splinter group Communist Party of Czechoslovakia - Czechoslovak Party of Labour was created 10 years ago but again , like 10-30 people total.

www.komsomol.cz (http://www.komsomol.cz) is the SMKČ site , maybe around 30-50 people in there , 20 active.
Yes there is the Czechoslovak anarchist federation (ČSAF) and maybe Black cross too but Antifascist action (www.antifa.cz (http://www.anitfa.cz)) is the strongest anarchist group in Czech rep. (maybe not in Slovakia because of the Direct action (http://www.priamaakcia.sk/) )

This isn't particularly surprising for the non-KSCM leftist forces in the Czech Republic.
There is the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia (KSČ) the second party in Czech rep.
I don't really know about membership figures (I believe the KSCM is roughly 90,000 members), but this isn't really the case. At least parliamentarily speaking, they are not the second party in Czech politics and certainly not the second party in regards to influence.

i would say that only the anarchist already top that easily.
antifa there (as in poland) is explicitly anti-authoritarian so excluding one or two left-communists completly anarchist and they brought hundreds on the streets in recent actions in prague

No I meanīt the KSČ is the second communist party, there are 2, maybe 3 - KSČM , KSČ and KSČ-ČSSP but the 2 latter have 0% influence.
As for the anarchists yes there are much more, they had 800 people in the december 2008 march against nazis.
There are around 8000 various fascist in Czech rep.

There is a report from the League for a Fifth International on its website looking at the formation of the new group that comrades may be interested in reading. I can't post links yet =/ so if you search Czech NPA on their site you can find their report.

OK, so is this Czech NPA clone a pathetic attempt to clone the L5I's "Call for a New Anti-Capitalist Party" front scheme in the UK?

Yes and no. It seems to have more support than just the L5I's section and does seem to have a certain pull amongst radical youth, so it is their approach but not as much of a failiure as their UK project.
