Does anyone think that a legitimate and authentic revolution will or can occur in the U.S. within this century? Just wondering what the forecast is in the minds of some of the more active members of the left.

Also a few random questions.

Why is trotsky considered "authoritarian"

What is bolshevism( or however you spell it)

Who would win in a fight-- Noam Chomsky or The Dalai Lama

No, probably not. It all depends on how socialism fairs in the rest of the world. I can't help but think that socialism will have to succeed in the countries American capitalism preys upon before American capitalism itself will fall. Besides, Americans are too controlled and inundated with "individualistic" rhetoric to turn to socialism on a large scale yet.

1. Because he was a bolshevik.

2. The party and ideology of Lenin stating that the communist revolution must be undertaken by a party of dedicated revolutionaries and that a communist revolution must be led by a vanguard party, or else it will fail.

A century is a long time the Soviet Union came up, made itself a super power, and collapsed all within a century. If capitalists and revisionists can do that then I would say it isn't that much to put some faith in the working class that they may do a similar feat given the opportunity, which very well could happen in the next century.

A century is a long long time, it's very possible. Just look at what Amerika went through in the last century, periods of massive strikes, rioting, urban guerilla warfare, etc. Its important to see this relatively stagnant period as just a short part of history. Things are always changing, and looking at the US I would guess that the class struggle will intensify a lot in the coming decade, perhaps leading to revolutionary situation in 20 or 30 years IF the correct leadership emerges.

Even if that fails there's still like 60 years.. In other words its impossible to say what will happen in the US within the next century. Who could have predicted the cold war, computers, the holocaust, rock n roll, AIDS, the EU, biogenetics, and so on, one century ago ?
