So the government's spin is that the reforms hand power to doctors and medical professionals, doctors and medical professionals who already have demanding jobs without having to decide on issues of funding, etc. This will presumably end up with private companies being given work deciding where to allocate money and resources, etc., allowing privatisation to sneak in the back door, whilst the government present the reforms as somehow liberatory.

basically hits the nail on the head.
all that talk of "ring fencing", promises of Camcam loving the NHS ect all bulshit clearly. stop the press folks, this politician is telling lies.
what is to me strange is that a group of managers and executives is being removed (the NHS bureaucracy) although i suppose that they will merely up stakes and move to private contractors.
so is this it for the public NHS? what is there in the way of defending the institution?

Oh wow, the Telegraph is now spilling so much shit on these plans.
Firstly, Lansley (the bloke behind the reforms) is bankrolled by a private healthcare company: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/mps-expenses/6989408/Andrew-Lansley-bankrolled-by-private-healthcare-provider.html
Secondly, the reforms will cost £3bn and won't work: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/health/healthnews/7894203/NHS-reforms-will-cost-3bn-and-will-not-work-academic.html

Come on people, this is a fucking huge attack on the NHS, and the Left seem to be saying very little about it.

I agree. The left needs to get its act together in the UK. I think we should aim for some unity here and try to face all these cuts as a class with different groups working together. National and regional campaigns that are in it for the long haul.
